Feelings after the First Week of Fashion Studies

First proper week of studies on International Fashion Branding degree is now behind, although due to September Weekend this week and also the next one are a bit shorter as Friday and Monday are days off. At least we got a soft start to the university life thanks to this bank holiday weekend.

Right now, after this first week I feel really good, motivated and inspired. Some modules haven't actually started yet, but at least these few that've already had lectures and seminars earlier this week seem interesting and above all useful. Academic Development Skills module maybe isn't the most exciting one, but as a foreigner student I bet it will be more than important to me! I'm already getting a little bit nervous regarding academic writing and referencing, as those are apparently the things that native students often struggle with too. During the first couple of days I also noticed that the Fashion Marketing course I did at Helsinki Design School last year definitely availed! So far we haven't covered anything that would've been completely new to me, but I know and I'm mentally prepared that soon the courses are going to get more difficult and the topics more deep. But I also know, that this is the area I'm willing to study and work hard on for multiple years. It's amazing feeling to finally be studying the thing that you're interested in, and not just agonise between the choices that your student counsellor lays in front of you.

Miten muilla uudessa koulussa tänä vuonna aloittaneilla on syksy lähtenyt käyntiin?

After a few year break I'm also starting my dear old dance hobby again by joining the university's Dance Club. We've already had a couple of lessons and it felt so good to be going through a choreography again for the first time in ages. Although I have to admit that I need to brush up my skills a little bit ;) I'm also excited about all the future events and social evenings with the dance group, it's so nice to get the everyday life rolling again!

How has the Autumn started off for the rest of you that started in a new school this year?

(EDIT: Some updated feelings written after the first full term of university can be found here!)

Tsemppiä sinne, kaikki menee jatkossakin varmasti hyvin :) x
