A little while ago a reader asked me what sources I use to keep up to date on the news from the fashion world. Being someone who studies fashion, my inbox gets filled with different newsletters which are a great, easy and quick way to stay in the know of everything that's happening in the industry. I've listed my favourite sources below in hopes that you will find this post useful if you're also interested in knowing what goes on in the fashion industry. Oh, and if you think there's something missing from my list then please do let me know in the comments below!
Tää on se mun ehdoton suosikki, jonka uutiskirjeen silmäilen läpi joka aamu! Vaikkei artikkeleita avaisikaan sen enempää niin pelkkien otsikoiden perusteella tunnen jo pysyväni hyvin mukana viimeisimmissä ja tärkeimmissä käänteissä. Mulla on tästä yliopiston kautta käytössä 'BoF Professional' -jäsenyys, eli mulla on vähän laajemmat lukuoikeudet kuin ilmaisversiossa. Kannattaa siis katsoa jos koulun kautta on mahdollisuus laajempiin lukuoikeuksiin! BoF:ia ja sen uutiskirjettä kuitenkin luin myös ennen yliopistoon menemistä, eli suosittelen kyllä ehdottomasti ilmaisversiotakin!
This is my ultimate favourite, and BoF newsletter is the one I eye through every single morning! Even if you don't actually open the articles and just read the headlines you still feel like you're on top of things and know the main things that are going on within the industry. I've got a 'BoF Professional' subscription thanks to uni, which gives me an unlimited access to the articles, so definitely check if you're able to get the professional subscription to get the full benefits! However, I was already reading Business of Fashion before starting uni, so I still do recommend the free version too!
Kaikille tuttu Vogue on oikeasti hyvä lähde myös muotimaailman uutisiin liittyen! Luonnollisesti Voguen sisältö keskittyy enemmän juttujen 'viihdearvoon' kuin BoF:in, mutta Voguetakin selailemalla pysyy kyllä hyvin mukana tärkeimmissä muotimaailman käänteissä.
Although Vogue isn't primarily a news source it is actually a good site for reading about the main happenings in the fashion industry! Obviously Vogue concentrates more on the entertainment value of its articles when compared to e.g. BoF, but it's still definitely a good site to have a look over.
Drapers kattaa todella laajasti kaikki mahdolliset muotimaailmaan liittyvät uutiset, ja on yksi alan parhaimpia ja arvostetuimpia uutislähteitä. Drapersin artikkelit on nimenomaan täyttä asiaa ja artikkelit liittyy ihan kaikkiin toimintoihin muodin sisällä. Drapers on mielestäni 'subscription only' -sivusto, enkä ole varma voiko sen artikkeleita lukea ollenkaan ilman jonkinlaista jäsenyyttä. Mulla on siis tässäkin käytössä yliopiston tunnukset, joten kannattaa Drapersinkin yhteydessä tsekata pääseekö niillä lukemaan!
Drapers is one of the best and most respected news sources within the industry. Drapers articles are to the point and 100% no BS covering all the different areas of fashion world from retail to trade shows and business operations. I think Drapers is a 'subscription only' service and I'm not sure if you're able to read the articles at all without being signed in. Again, I'm able to access the articles with my uni credentials, so do check if you can access the site with the ones from your education or work!
FashionUnited on sisällön suhteen mielestäni hieman Drapersin tyylinen, mutta jos en ihan väärässä ole niin tämä on täysin ilmainen sivusto! Uutiset kattaa hyvin kaikki erilaiset muotimaailman toiminnot aina jälleenmyynnistä bisnes-juttuihin, ja FashionUnitedin uutiskirje on sekin todella hyvä ja kattava!
In my opinion, FashionUnited is a little bit like Drapers when it comes to content, but if I'm not completely wrong their articles are free to access for everyone! The news coverage provides a fairly wide view on the different functions of the fashion industry, and their newsletter is actually really good as well!
