VIDEO: Birthday Vlog

Viime viikon perjantaina vietin 23. syntymäpäivääni, ja kuvasin päivältä myös vlogia. Pääsette videon avulla siis mukaan mun pienimuotoisiin synttärijuhlintoihin, jotka alkoi Glasgow'n päässä brunssilla ja päättyi Edinburghissa dinnerille äidin ja pikkusiskon kanssa. Toivottavasti pidätte vlogista!

Last Friday marked my 23rd birthday, and I also filmed some of the day into a little birthday vlog. On the video you'll get to follow along my day and small-scale celebrations, that started with a brunch in Glasgow and ended to a dinner in Edinburgh with my mum and little sister. How to Get Out of a Style Rut: Back to Basics

Mulla on viime aikoina ollut vähän nihkeä fiilis pukeutumisen suhteen. Inspiroitunut kyllä, mutta tuntuu että ne asut jotka haluaisin tällä hetkellä päälleni pukea ovat vielä joko aivan liian kevyitä ja kesäisiä, tai sitten ne ei vaan jotenkin muuten vain sovi mulle ollenkaan. Välillä oon ajautunut yrittämään liikaakin, jolloin lopputulos on ollut se että asu ei ole tuntunut yhtään omalta ja se on myös näkynyt ja tuntunut omassa fiiliksessä ja olemuksessa. Tilanne ei välttämättä ole välittynyt sinne ruutujen toiselle puolelle blogin ja Instagramin kautta, koska molemmissa kanavissa haluan julkaista vain sellaisia lookeja joissa tunnen oloni hyväksi. Mutta "kulissien takana" on kuitenkin käyty välillä melkoista tyylimyllerrystä.

I've been feeling a bit 'meh' when it comes to dressing myself lately. I have been feeling inspired yes, but I feel like the outfits that inspire me and that I would like to put on just now are still way too light and summery, or then they just not 'me' no matter how great they look on other people. Sometimes I've been trying almost too hard even, and then the result has only been that the outfit hasn't felt like me at all, which has then translated to how I feel and the kind of vibe I'm having. This might not have been evident here on the blog or on my Instagram, since on both channels I only want to publish the kind of outfits that I feel good and like myself in. But there's occasionally been quite a style turmoil going on behind the scenes. 



Asiaan löytyi kuitenkin helppoakin helpompi ratkaisu: pieni vaatekaapin siivous, pari uutta mieluista hankintaa ja ennen kaikkea back to basics -ajatus. Vaatekaappia siivotessa pois sai lähteä kaikki ei-inspiroivat tai omaa niin sanottua unelmatyyliäni vastaavat vaatteet, ja samalla kaapin kätköistä löytyi unohtuneita ja vähälle käytölle jääneitä juttuja, jotka pääsevät nyt taas useammin käyttöön. Uudet lisäykset puolestaan tein se unelmatyyli ja -vaatekaappi mielessä enkä vain sen mukaan mikä on trendikästä tai näyttää muiden päällä hyvältä.

Luckily I found an easy solution to the problem: a little wardrobe clear out, a couple of new additions, and first and foremost adopting the back to basics mentality. When clearing out my closet I put away all the items that didn't inspire me or weren't representable of my current or so called dream style, and at the same time I found a few forgotten pieces that are going to get more frequent wear from now on again. Then I made the new additions with my dream style and wardrobe in mind, staying clear of items that are just trendy but not me, or what looks good on others but wouldn't suit my style.

Shop the Look

Ja viimeisenä vielä back to basics. Eli päälle ne lempparivaatteet, joissa tiedän viihtyväni ja jotka kuvastavat parhaiten mua ja mun tyyliä. Vaikka tyylikokeilut onkin mun mielestä aina hyvästä, niin turha lähteä liikaa kikkailemaan jolloin lopputulos on vain epämukava ja epäinspiroitunut olo.

Kuvien asu on sekoitus juurikin näitä kaikkia. Siivouksen yhteydessä uudelleen löytyneet puvunhousut, uusi trenssi, ja niiden kanssa muita vaatekaapin lemppareita pooloneuleen, hiuspannan, helmikorvisten ja valkoisten lenkkareiden muodossa. Nyt vaan kun muistaisin pitää mielessä, että tällaiset lookit on niitä jotka toimii mulla parhaiten, niin ulkonäöllisesti kuin fiiliksenkin puolesta!

And lastly going back to basics. So wearing only my favourite items of clothing, the ones I know I feel good in and that represent me and my style the best. Although I do think a little style experimentation is always good, there's no point in trying too gimmickry things when you'll only end up feeling uncomfortable and uninspired. 

The outfit you see in these photos is an example of exactly those three things. A pair of suit trousers that I found when doing my clear out, a new in trench coat, and then other wardrobe favourites in the form of a turtleneck jumper, a headband, pearl earrings and white trainers. Now if only I could keep in mind that these kind of outfits are the ones that work the best for me, both when it comes to looks and how I feel!

March Snapshots

Hello maanantai, uusi viikko ja huhtikuu! Maaliskuu tuli, oli ja meni, ja kokonaisuudessaan kuukausi oli kyllä sellaista ylä- ja alamäkien vuoristorataa ettei toista. Yleisesti ottaen maaliskuusta jäi kuitenkin positiivinen fiilis, ja viikonloppu yhdessä äidin ja siskon kanssa oli kuulle mitä ihanin päätös. Huhtikuu tulee keskittymään vahvasti vuoden viimeisten yliopistohommien tekemiseen, ennen kuin muutaman viikon päästä starttaillaan taas kesäloma. Mutta nyt vielä kurkkaus maaliskuun puolelle puhelinkuvien muodossa!

Hello Monday, new week and April! March came, was and went, and overall it was a month of rollercoaster-like ups and downs like no other. Generally speaking however I'm feeling quite positive about the past month, and last weekend together with mum and my little sister was definitely the loveliest way to finish off the month. April will be focused on finishing off the last assignments of the year before it's time to start the summer holiday in a few weeks already. But for now, here's a little glimpse to my month of March as told by the camera roll on my phone!

Vietettiin ystäväni Anun kanssa ihana lauantai-iltapäivä ja ilta ensin kuvatessa, sitten syömässä ja viineillä ja päätettiin ilta The Music of Harry Potter -konsertissa Glasgow Royal Conert Hallissa.

We spent a lovely Saturday afternoon and evening together with my friend Anu by first shooting new content, and then wining and dining before heading to the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall for The Music of Harry Potter concert.

In March I woke up to the realisation how pale my skin is, and so I've been getting back to self tanning again. Rakastan kerrostettuja kaulakoruja, ja tässä onkin kaikki tän hetken lempparit yhdessä! Helmikoru on PR-lahja Dorothy Perkinsiltä, sormus puolestaan kastesormukseni, ja toiseksi ylin sekä alin riipus ovat yhtä samaa korua, jonka tilasin viime syksynä Asosilta // Kuukauden toinen uusi kahvilakokeilu (Short Long Black) ja moikkaamaan tullut ihana koira-asiakas. Koiraystävällisissä kahviloissa istuskelu on kyllä parasta, ja niitä täältä löytyy paljon!

I love layered necklaces, and here are all of my faves together! The pearl one was a lovely gift from the Dorothy Perkins PR team, the ring one is my christening ring, whereas the lowest and second highest pendants are actually one single necklace that I ordered from Asos last autumn // Another new coffee shop trial of the month (Short Long Black) and a cute hairy customer that came to say hi. I love dog friendly cafes and there really are plenty of those around!

Selfieitä tulee nykyisin otettua aika harvoin, mutta kerrankin oli sellanen fiilis ja valo että päätin napata muutaman räpsyn ihan vain naamastanikin // Pellavableiseri ja trenssitakki on otettu käyttöön, kevät on siis virallisesti täällä!

Selfies are something I don't tend to take that often anymore, but when the feeling and light is there you need to go for it // The linen blazer and trench coat are out, that means spring is officially here! 

Maaliskuun viimeinen viikonloppu tarkoitti synttäriviikonloppua! Aamupäivän brunssin jälkeen otin suunnaksi Edinburghin ja kiertelin hetken kaupungilla ennen kuin tsekkasin sisään hotelliin odottamaan äidin ja siskon saapumista Nonsense-podi ja vegaaninen porkkanakakku seuranani. Tällaiseen hotellihengailuun olisi kyllä voinut vaikka tottua! Synttäripäivästä on muuten tulossa vielä vlogia myöhemmin, eli pysykää kuulolla sen suhteen!

The last weekend of March meant birthday weekend! After first brunching with friends I jumped on the train to Edinburgh and did a little wander around the city centre before checking in to our hotel to wait for mum and sister to arrive. Podcasts and vegan carrot cake were keeping me company and I could definitely get to used to this kind of hotel chilling! There's also a birthday vlog coming your way later, so stay tuned for that!

Lauantaina puolestaan vietettiin päivä suurimmaksi osaksi Edinburghissa, ja pääsin myös vihdoin käymään Edinburghin linnassa, josta aukesi aika upeat näkymät tässä vaiheessa vielä sateisen harmaan kaupungin ylle. Onneksi saatiin kuitenkin nauttia aurinkoisestakin Edistä hetken aikaa! // Poikettiin myös muutamissa kaupoissa Edinburghin päässä, ja H&M:ltä tarttui jotain taas mukaankin, mutta siitä lisää myöhemmin!

On Saturday we spent most of the day in Edinburgh, and I finally got to visit the Edinburgh Castle too. The views over the city were quite gorgeous, albeit rainy and grey at this point. Luckily we did get to experience Edinburgh in sunshine later on in the day too! // We also popped in to a few shops in Edinburgh, and something ended up in my shopping bag at H&M, but more about that later!

It's my 23rd birthday today, and to celebrate I decided to share 23 totally random facts about myself with you guys! Maybe these will give you a better understanding about who and what kind of a person I am, or maybe you just really enjoy reading some random things about me. Like I mentioned in Monday's post, I'm going to be spending the weekend together with my mum and sister, but first there's a birthday brunch with friends in the plans! 1.Pitkitän pyykkien pesua aina siihen asti kunnes otan kaapista sen viimeisen puhtaan sukkaparin tai puhtaat alushousut.

2. Ja pyykeistä puheen ollen, VIHAAN puhtaiden pyykkien kuivumaan laittamista. Se kosteiden vaatteiden tuntu on vaan jotain niin inhottavaa.

3. Voisin syödä hummusta varmaan joka aterialla. Samoin maapähkinävoita.

4. Rakastan aamupalaa (tässä kohtaa täytyy todeta että aamupalalla ei kyllä hummus maistu).

5. Ja mun aamupalalemppari on ehdottomasti vanha kunnon kaurapuuro! Tiedättekö sanonnan tykätä jostain "kuin hullu puurosta"? Mä oon se hullu.

6. Mulla oli lapsena mielikuvitusystävä Pipsa, jonka mummo asui Lappeenrannassa ja jonka luona käytiin usein kylässä :D

1. I always put off doing my washing for as long as possible, and only get around to doing it when I pull out that last clean pair of socks or underwear from the drawer.

2. And speaking of washing, I HATE hanging it up. That feeling of damp clothes is just something disgusting to me.

3. I could eat hummus on every meal. And peanut butter.

4. I love breakfast (have to say that I would not eat hummus at breakfast though).

5. And my favourite breakfast is porridge, hands down! There's a saying in Finnish that goes 'to like something like a mad person likes porridge'. I think I'm that mad person the saying is talking about.

6. As a child I had an imaginary friend named Pipsa, whose Grandma lived in Finnish town called Lappeenranta and we used to visit her often :D




7. En yhtään tykkää autolla ajamisesta.

8. Pyykkien pesun lisäksi pitkitän myös hiusten pesua aina niin pitkälle kuin mahdollista.

9. En ole koskaan nähnyt yhtäkään Star Wars -elokuvaa kokonaan.

10. Oikeasti vähän tykkään iteruskettavan hajusta.

11. Olen aiheuttanut hälytyksen taidegalleriassa Baselissa. Ja koska yksi kerta ei riittänyt, tein saman kahdesti.

12. Rakastan aikaisin heräämistä ja hitaita aamuja.

13. Kun Michael Jackson leffa julkaistiin muutama vuosi sitten mun oli tarkoitus olla mukana flash mobissa, joita leffan kunniaksi järjestettiin ympäri maailmaa. Noh, Helsingin mobihan sitten vähän floppasi kun tanssijoille ei ollut tarpeeksi tilaa, ja laitoinkin mobia kritisoiville vanhoille kunnon NRJ:n aamupojille vihaista sähköpostia kun he aamuohjelmassaan lyttäsi koko flash mobin ihan maahan. Meni vissiin pienellä tanssija-Pinjalla hieman tunteisiin.

7. I really don't like driving a car.

8. Alongside doing my washing, I also put off washing my hair for as long as possible.

9. I've never seen a Star Wars film in full.

10. I actually really quite like the smell of self tanner.

11. I've caused an alarm in an art gallery in Basel. And because one time wasn't enough, I did it twice for good measure.

12. I love early and slow mornings.

13. When the Michael Jackson film came out a few years ago I was supposed to dance in the Helsinki flash mob to celebrate the launch. Well, that mob flopped quite badly because there wasn't enough space for all the dancers, and when my favourite radio programme criticised the whole things with harsh words I sent an angry email to them. Clearly the little dancer-Pinja felt quite strongly about the whole situation.

14. Tanssin lisäksi oon elämäni aikana harrastanut luistelua, tyttökerhoa, sirkuskoulua ja käsityökerhoa. Tanssi oli kuitenkin aina se mun juttu ja lajeja onkin tullut kokeiltua laidasta laitaan: latinalaisia, showta, discoa, MTV-tyylistä dancea, nykytanssia ja hip hopiakin!

15. Mun on todella vaikea hahmottaa ja arvioida välimatkoja, aikaa, lukumääriä, yms. Kaverit kiittelee tästä ominaisuudesta erityisesti silloin kun istun apukuskin paikalla kartturina :D

16. Oon viime aikoina alkanut haaveilemaan joogaohjaajakoulutuksen suorittamisesta jossain vaiheessa elämää.

17. Oon onnistunut tappamaan useamman kaktuksen, mutta vaikkapa Lidlin tulppaanikimput pysyy mun hellässä huomassa hyvänä helposti viikon.

18. Olin pienenä heppatyttö, vaikka vähän pelkäsinkin hevosia.

14. Alongside dancing, my hobbies have also included ice skating, girl's afternoon club, circus and arts & crafts club. But dancing was always 'my thing' and I did a variety of styles over the years: latin dances, show, disco, MTV style, contemporary as well as hip hop even!

15. It's really difficult for me to perceive and estimate distances, time, amount, etc. My friends are very grateful for this lack of skill especially when I'm supposed to navigate us somewhere.

16. Lately I've been dreaming about completing a yoga teacher training at some point in my life.

17. I've managed to kill a number of cacti in my life, but for example tulip bouquets from Lidl always last for at least a week in my good and gentle care.

18. I was a bit of a 'horse girl' as a child, although I was also a little afraid of horses.

21. Kuuntelen nykyään todella harvoin musiikkia ja sen sijaan kuulokkeissa soi useimmiten joku hyvä podcast.

22. Teininä halusin aina pois Suomesta, mutta nyt sieltä poissa ollessa arvostan Suomea ihan eri tavalla. Tällä hetkellä tuntuu että voisin jopa nähdä itseni takaisin asumassa ja työskentelemässä Suomessa.

23. Vaikka tiedän että 23 on vielä oikeasti todella nuori, on mulla kuitenkin ehkä pieni ikäkriisi. Lähinnä koska tuntuu että aika kuluu niin hitsin nopeasti!

21. Nowadays I very rarely listen to music anymore as I always tend to have a podcast playing in my earphones.

22. As a teen I always wanted away from Finland, but now that I am actually away I have a whole new appreciation for the country. Right now I even feel like I could actually move back to live and work in Finland.

23. Although I do know that 23 is still a very young age, I still have a bit of an age crisis. Mainly because time is passing by so freaking quickly!

Occasionwear Inspiration

On taas se aika vuodesta kun juhlasesonki alkaa olla nurkan takana. Valmistujaiset, rippijuhlat, häät... Kevät ja kesä on usein melko vilkasta juhlien aikaa, ja mullakin on jälleen tiedossa ainakin yhdet kesäjuhlat kun nuorempi pikkuveljeni juhlii lakkiaisia kesäkuun alussa. Oonkin jo vähän alustavasti alkanut pohtimaan, että mitähän sitä taas päälleen laittaisi? Inspiraation metsästämiseksi selailinkin vähän nettikauppoja, ja muutamat ihanuudet iskivät silmään ihan erityisesti. Bleiserimekko olisi kyllä jotenkin niin mua, mutta näistä kaikista mun sydän läpättää kaikista koviten tuolle aivan upealle Reissin housuista ja bleiseristä koostuvalle puvulle. Kaunis murrettu salvian vihreä väri uppoaa muhun muutenkin tällä hetkellä todella kovaa!

It's that time of the year again when the party and occasion season is just around the corner. Graduations, confirmation parties, weddings... Spring and summer is often a bit busier on the party front, and I've got at least one more formal type of a summer party lined up as my younger little brother will be graduating from high school at the start of June. Naturally I've already been doing some thought work on what on earth am I going to wear? In search for inspiration I did some browsing online, and a few gorgeous items caught my eye in particular. That blazer dress would certainly be so me, but out of all of these my heart is beating the fastest to that stunning Reiss suit that consists of separate trousers and a blazer. That sage green hue is something I'm currently really drawn into in general!
