3 Reasons I Love Suits

Mä rakastun klassisiin, tyylikkäisiin ja ajattomiin housupukuihin koko ajan vain enemmän ja enemmän. Tämä siistien suorien puvunhousujen ja yhteensopivan bleiserin yhdistelmä on ehdottomasti yksi syksyn suosikeista, ja vaatekaapista löytyykin nykyään jonkinlainen puku tai ainekset pukuasun koostamiseen niin harmaana, mustana kuin beigenäkin. Aloin pohtimaan, mistä mun rakkaus housupukuihin oikein kumpuaa ja totesin, että sille on oikeastaan kolme syytä. 

I keep on falling increasingly more in love with classic, chic and timeless suits. The combination of elegant straight legged suit trousers and a matching blazer is without a doubt one of my favourite looks for the autumn season. Alongside this featured grey suit, I've also got a suit or the elements to create one in black and beautiful beige tone too hanging in my wardrobe. I started to think where does this love for suits come from, and came to the conclusion that there are actually three reasons for it. 

3 syytä pukeutua housupukuun

Housupuku on varma asukriisin pelastaja

Sellaisina päivinä, kun oikeastaan mikään muu vaate tai asu ei inspiroi ja klassisesti tuntuu että "mulla ei ole mitään päällepantavaa", niin silloin housupuku on ratkaisu kaikkiin tyyliongelmiin. Housupuvun kanssa ei tarvitse erikseen miettiä tai yrittää keksiä erillistä yläosaa ja alaosaa. Voi vain napata yhteensopivat housut ja bleiserin henkarilta, pukea bleiserin alle topin, t-paidan tai vaikkapa neuleen, ja kokonaisuus on valmis. Niin helppoa, nopeaa ja takuuvarmasti tyylikästä!

A suit saves an outfit crisis

On those days when nothing else inspires and I get that classic feeling of 'I've got nothing to wear', a suit is the solution for all my style dilemmas. When you wear a suit, you don't have to think about which top goes with which bottom. You can simply just grab a pair of suit trousers and a matching blazer from the hanger, put on a top, t-shirt or even a light knit under the blazer and there you have it. So easy, quick and fool-proof stylish!

Monipuolinen, yhdessä ja erikseen

Housupuku on myös monipuolinen asuvalinta. Esimerkiksi kenkiä ja asusteita vaihtamalla housupuvun voi pukea päälle niin arkeen kuin juhlaankin. Lenkkareiden tai nilkkureiden kanssa housupuku toimii loistavasti arjessa ja työpaikalla, kun taas vaihtamalla jalkaan korkokengät, bleiserin alle esimerkiksi pitsitopin ja nappaamalla käteen pienen clutch-mallisen iltalaukun, muuntautuu housupuku hetkessä juhlavammaksi asuksi. Mulla on esimerkiksi ollut musta housupuku nimenomaan pitsitopin ja korkokenkien kanssa veljeni ylioppilasjuhlissa muutama vuosi sitten. 

Suit is versatile, together and separately

A suit is also a versatile outfit choice. By switching up e.g. your shoes or other accessories a suit can be worn in the everyday as well as for more special occasions. With trainers or ankle boots a suit works wonderfully in the everyday or at the office. But put on a pair of high heels, wear a lace top under the blazer and grab a small clutch bag to your hand, and you've got yourself a whole lot fancier suit ensemble. I've personally worn a black suit with a lace top and high heels to my brother's graduation a few years ago.

Suit makes you feel powerful and confident

One significant reason why I love a good suit is how strong, powerful and confident they make me feel. There really is just something about wearing a matching pair of trousers and a blazer! Putting on a suit makes you feel like you've got your life together and you're ready to face whatever the day ahead throws at you. I'm always advocating for wearing outfits that boost your confidence and mood, but in my opinion one of the best looks to do exactly that is a classic suit.

Muotiopas New Yorkiin

New York kuuluu ehdottomasti muoti-intoilijan huippukohteisiin, onhan yksi Big Four -muotiviikoista eli New Yorkin muotiviikotkin kaupungissa aina kaksi kertaa vuodessa. New Yorkissa siis todellakin riittää nähtävää ja koettavaa muotifanille, ja oli sanomattakin selvää että itsekin halusin nähdä ja kokea muutaman muotiin liittyvän kohteen meidän New Yorkin matkan aikana. Paljon jäi tietysti vielä näkemättä, mutta hei pitäähän sitä jättää jotakin seuraavallekin kerralle. 

New York is without a doubt one of the top travel destinations for a fashion enthusiast. I mean, one of the Big Four fashion weeks, i.e. New York Fashion Week, is held in the city twice a year. New York truly has a lot to see and experience for a fashion girl (or guy), and it probably goes without saying that I also wanted to see and experience a few fashion attractions during our New York trip. A lot was still left on my list, but hey you gotta leave something for the next time too, right?

Louis Vuitton 200 Trunks 200 Visionaries 

660 Madison Avenue, New York

Louis Vuittonin 200-vuotisjuhlavuoden kunniaksi maailmaa kiertänyt näyttely, joka kokoaa yhteen 200 eri taiteilijan luomat klassiset Louis Vuittonin matka-arkut. Näyttely on todella laaja, ja hienosti järjestetty muutenkin kuin vain näyttelyarkkujen osalta. Näyttelyn yhteydessä on myös workshop-tila, jossa järjestetään erilaisia tapahtumia näyttelyn aikana. Sisäänpääsy on ilmainen, mutta vierailuaika täytyy varata etukäteen ja sen voi tehdä täällä. Tosin ajankohdan kanssa oltiin paikan päällä joustavia, itsekin pääsin sisään jo kaksi tuntia ennen varattua ajankohtaa kun kävin vain ovella kysymässä olisiko mahdollista päästä katsomaan näyttely jo aiemmin. Louis Vuitton 200 Trunks 200 Visionaries on nähtväillä vanhassa Barney's-tavaratalon tilassa Upper East Sidella osoitteessa 660 Madison Avenue vielä 31.12.2022 asti. 

The 200 Trunks 200 Visionaries exhibition that celebrates the 200th birthday of Louis Vuitton has travelled around the world and finally landed in New York. The exhibition curates together 200 classic Louis Vuitton trunks as designed and envisioned by 200 different artists. The exhibition itself is wide and well organised in general, not only when it comes to the trunks on show. The venue also has a workshop space, where you can attend different workshops during the exhibition. The entrance to the 200 Trunks 200 Visionaries exhibition is free, but you have to book a time slot in advance which you can do here. However, they were very flexible at least with my time slot and allowed me in two hours prior to my booked slot when I just went in and asked. The Louis Vuitton 200 Trunks 200 Visionaries exhibition can be found in the old Barney's building at 660 Madison Avenue on Upper East Side, and it runs until the 31st of December 2022. 

The Museum at FIT

227 W 27th St, New York

Fashion Institute of Technology oli mulle entuudestaan tuttu vain yliopistona ja siksi mulle tulikin yllätyksenä että koulun yhteydessä on myös museo. Kävin katsomassa kenkiin keskittyvän Shoes: Anatomy, Identity, Magic -näyttelyn sekä Balenciagan ja Diorin designeja vierekkäin tarkastelevan Dior + Balenciaga: The Kings of Couture and their Legacies -näyttelyn. Kenkänäyttely on nähtävillä vielä vuoden 2022 loppuun asti, ja Dior + Balenciaga 6. marraskuuta asti. Myös tulevat näyttelyt kuulostavat mielenkiintoisilta, eli kannattaa ehdottomasti laittaa vierailu The Museum at FIT:ssa New Yorkin to do -listalle. 

I knew Fashion Institute of Technology as a university only, and so it came as a surprise to me that there is also a museum at the premises. I went to view the Shoes: Anatomy, Identity, Magic exhibition which, as the name would suggest, is all about shoes. Another exhibition that's currently running at the Museum at FIT is Dior + Balenciaga: The Kings of Couture and their Legacies, which examines the designs of the two designers next to each other. The shoe exhibition runs until the end of 2022, whereas the Dior + Balenciaga one only until the 6th of November. However, the upcoming exhibitions also sound very interesting, so definitely put The Museum at FIT onto your New York to do list if you're in the city. 

Ralph's Coffee

Ralph Lauren on ehkä yksi ikonisimpia jenkkibrändejä ja -suunnittelijoita, ja vuosien aikana brändi on laajentanut vaatteista kaikenlaisiin erilaisiin lifestyle-kategorioihin. Ralph Lauren is probably one of the most iconic American brands and designers, and throughout the years the brand has expanded from clothes to different lifestyle categories. One of them being the Ralph's Coffee cafes which you can find in multiple locations around New York. Alongside New York, there's a Ralphs Coffee also e.g. in London and Tokyo. Psst! Make sure to also check out The Polo Bar, which is Ralph Lauren's restaurant in New York. 

The RealReal Flagship

The RealReal tunnetaan designer brändien second hand -verkkokauppana, mutta heillä on myös muutama kivijalkaliike New Yorkissa. The RealReal is primarily knows as a designer second hand online store, but they've also got a few brick and mortar stores in New York. The flagship store is situated in SoHo, and at least that one is definitely worth a visit. The product selection is carefully curated and includes clothing, bags and accessories from various designers. And the space itself is beautiful and inspiring too. The products are nicely arranged according to different themes, such as 'Y2K' and 'Cottage Weekend'. Definitely worth a visit even if you don't find any second hand treasures!

How to Elevate a Denim Outfit

Farkut ovat perus arkipukeutumisen ehdoton kulmakivi, ja ovat olleet juuri sitä jo vuosikymmenien ajan. Itsekin olen aina kutsunut itseäni farkkutytöksi, ja vaikka muita housuja ja alaosia tulee mukaan päivittäiseen pukeutumiseen niin farkkuja en silti varmasti koskaan hylkää kokonaan. Farkut ovat monikäyttöiset, ja eri tavoilla stailaamalla ja erilaisiin elementteihin yhdistämällä ne sopivat moneen eri tilanteeseen. Farkuissa parasta on myös se, että tätä klassikkovaatetta löytyy niin montaa eri mallia ja tyyliä, että jokainen löytää varmasti itselleen mieluisat farkut. Farkkumuodissakin trendit hieman muuttuvat ja elävät, mutta klassiset siniset farkut näyttävät oikeastaan aina hyviltä. 

Monesti ajatellaan, että vain mustat farkut toimivat iltamenoissa ja siniset ovat päivää varten, mutta oikeilla valinnoilla sinisetkin farkut voi nostaa niin sanotusti nextille levelille ja stailata myös iltamenoihin, esimerkiksi illalliselle. 

Jeans are without a doubt a cornerstone of basic everyday dressing, and have been exactly that for decades already. Personally I've always called myself a denim girl, and although other types of trousers and bottoms make their way into my everyday outfits, I'm still never going to fully abandon my denim jeans. Jeans are multifunctional, and when you style them correctly you can wear them for multiple different situations and occasions. One of the best things about jeans is also the fact that this classic item is so readily available on the market that each and everyone is sure to find a model, fit and style that suits their personal style and preference. There are trends that come and go also when it comes to jeans, but a pair of classic blue denim jeans always look good. 

We often tend to think that it's only black jeans that can be worn to evening occasions and blue ones are daytime wear only. However, with the right choices a pair of blue jeans can also be lifted to the next level so to speak, and styled e.g. for a dinner date.

Näin puet farkut iltamenoihin

Yhdistä tummaan yläosaan

Tummat sävyt ovat juhlavampia kuin vaaleat, eli kun farkut yhdistää tummaan yläosaan sen klassisen valkoisen kauluspaidan tai t-paidan sijaan niin kokonaisuudesta tulee heti siistimpi, juhlavampi ja paremmin iltaan sopiva. Mustalla ei voi koskaan mennä pieleen, mutta kokeile myös esimerkiksi tummanruskeaa, tummanpunaista ja tummanvihreää. 

How to style denim for evening hours

Combine with a dark top

Darker hues usually look more festive than lighter colours, so when you wear jeans with a darker top instead of that classic white button down or t-shirt, the overall look instantly becomes smarter and more fitting for the evening hours. Black is obviously a colour that you simply cannot go wrong with, but for example dark brown, burgundy and dark green are worth a try too.

Värin lisäksi myös yläosan materiaali ja yksityiskohdat voivat muuttaa farkut hetkessä juhlavimmiksi. A more festive material and details

Alongside colour, also the material and detailing of your top can make your jeans look more festive in an instant. A satin or silk shirt, or a top adorned with beautiful buttons, dainty feathers or other details is a great option to wear with jeans when your goal is to look a little bit more festive and put-together compared to the usual everyday denim outfits without going over to the occasion wear side. Keep this tip in mind for the upcoming pre-Christmas season!

Ah, vanha kunnon asustekikka. Mihin tahansa asuun saa helposti ja nopeasti tuotua juhlavuutta oikeilla asusteilla. Pikkulaukku, kauniit korvakorut tai esimerkiksi näyttävä kaulakoru muuntavat farkkuasunkin hetkessä siistimmäksi. Ja tämä pätee muuten myös toisin päin! Korolliset kengät tuovat ryhtiä olemukseen niin konkreettisesti kuin kuvaannollisestikin. Olipa kyseessä sitten avokkaat, saappaat tai nilkkurit, niin jo pienikin korko tuo sekä asuun että omaan fiilikseen tyylikkyyttä. 

Accessories

Ah, the good old accessory gimmick. You can add more festive vibes to any outfit if you choose the right kind of accessories. A clutch bag, beautiful earrings or a statement necklace have the ability to turn a denim look into a more festive one. And this applies the other way around too! If you want to style down your denim a bit and make your outfit a bit more casual or sporty, put on a cap and throw a gym bag onto your shoulder and there you have it. 

Add a heel

A shoe with some heel instantly makes you stand taller and look more put-together. Whether it's a classic pump, boots or ankle boots, even a tiny bit of a heel underneath the sole make you look and feel smarter and ready to walk in to any p.m. event.

Choose the right perfume

Perfume acts as the cherry on top and truly finalises the whole outfit you're wearing. When you want to elevate your denim outfit, choose a scent that supports that goal. Deep, a little mysterious and spicy scents are my personal favourites in this purpose. Alongside the outfit, your perfume obviously also finalises your whole vibe both internally and externally, as scents have a huge impact on our mood.

Trendy Autumn Layering in 2022

Syksy ja kerrospukeutuminen yksinkertaisesti kuuluvat yhteen, vähän samalla tavalla kuin paahtoleipä ja avokado tai sunnuntai ja kasvonaamiot. Kun minihameeseen ja sukkahousuihin yhdistää vielä pitkävartiset saapikkaat, niin kokonaisuus pitää jalat jopa yllättävät lämpiminä, ja näin ollen minihametta voi käyttää huomattavasti pidemmälle syksyyn. 

Mini skirts and tights

A trendy mini skirt works amazingly well in autumn when you simply put a pair of tights underneath. And when you go even one step further and add a pair of over the knee or knee high boots on top of the tights, the combination keeps your legs surprisingly warm and so you can keep on wearing your mini skirt longer into autumn.

Loaferit ja sukat

Siinä missä vielä pari vuotta sitten esimerkiksi sukat sandaaleissa oli ultimaattinen fashion no-no, niin tänä vuonna sukat ovat saaneet vilkkua vapaasti ja estoitta niin sandaaleista kuin muistakin kengistä. Ja nyt syksyn tullen sukat puetaan nahkaisten loafereiden kanssa. Myös Birkenstock Bostonit ja UGG Tasmanit ovat kovassa nosteessa, eikä niidenkään kanssa tarvitse miettiä voiko sukat vilkkua varresta vai ei, sillä vastaus on että kyllä voi! Socks on show with any type of shoe was pretty much a fashion no-no a couple of years ago, but oh how times have changed. This year it's all about socks on show - with sandals and all the other types of shoes too. And now that it's autumn, socks with loafers is one of the best footwear choices. However, the Birkenstock Boston and UGG Tasman are also really gaining momentum and, you guessed it, both will be worn with socks. One of the best things about this shoes with socks trend is obviously the fact that you can extend the wear time of your favourite summer shoes without having to freeze your toes off.

You maybe get the best idea of the old money style if you think about the 60s, Mad Men tv series and the most classic Chanel look.

Old money aesthetic on viime aikoina viehättänyt itseänikin, mutta ei kuitenkaan siinä määrin että pukeutuisin sen tyylisesti päästä varpaisiin. Sen sijaan erityisesti tämä viime kevään buklee-takki ja koristeellisilla napeilla viimeistelty villatakki ovat olleet ahkerassa käytössä muun vaatekaapin ja erilaisten asukokonaisuuksien kanssa. Esimerkiksi buklee-takin olen yhdistänyt kuvien nahkahousujen lisäksi myös tyköistuvan ribbimekon kanssa, ja villapaidan olen pukenut farkkujen pariksi. Jos old money tyyli iskee, niin kannattaakin ehdottomasti napata trendistä ne omat suosikkijutut, ja lähteä rohkeasti kokeilemaan ja yhdistämään niitä omaan vaatekaappiin ja tyyliin parhaiten sopivalla tavalla. Takit, jakut ja neule- sekä villapaidat ovatkin todella helppoja yhdistää moniin erilaisiin alaosiin: nahkahousuihin, farkkuihin, puvunhousuihin tai esimerkiksi super trendikkääseen minihameeseen. 

How to achieve old money style easily

I've been getting into the old money aesthetic lately as well, however not to the extent to dress myself in it from top to toe. Instead it's especially this boucle jacket from last spring and a warm cardigan with beautiful buttons that I've been using and styling with other pieces in my wardrobe. I've worn this boucle jacket for example with leather trousers like here but also with a tight ribbed dress, and the cardigan with a pair of jeans. If old money style speaks you, then it's definitely a good idea to pick your favourite things from the trend and experiment and see how they could be styled with items already in your wardrobe in a way that best fits into your style. Jackets, blazers and cardigans are all such easy pieces to combine with different bottoms: leather trousers, jeans, suit trousers or even the super trendy mini skirt.
