Welcome to My New Home: Interior Details

Koti- ja sisustuspostauksia toivottiin ja vakka muutamia juttuja täältä uudesta kodista edelleen puuttuu ja hankintalistalla on vielä mm. uusi keittiönpöytä ja tuolit sekä pimennysverhot, niin kokonaisuudessaan sain uuden kodin jo heti muuttopäivänä siihen kuntoon että sisustuksen kokonaiskuva on hahmottunut. Tässä postauksessa siis kurkkaus uuteen kotiin sen näköisenä kuin se nyt on. 

You guys requested home and interiors posts, and although a few things are still on the shopping list for the new home I actually managed to put the flat quite well together already on the moving day. So scroll forward and take a look into my new home as it looks now. 

Uusikin koti on yksiö, mutta keittiön ja makuuhuoneen välinen ovi saa tämän tuntumaan melkeinpä kaksiolta! Ja vitsi olen tyytyväinen että ostin viime vuonna tuon JYSKin peilin, rakastan sitä edelleen ja se sopii myös tänne uuden kodin makkariin super hyvin. 

This new home is a studio flat too, but because of the door between the kitchen and bedroom this actually feels like a one bed flat! And I'm still super happy that I bought that mirror from JYSK last year, I still absolutely love it and it suits super well into the interiors of my new bedroom too. 

Yksi juttu, mihin tässä kämpässä heti ensisilmäyksellä ihastuin, on nämä leveät ikkunalaudat! Toimii superhyvin pöytätilana tai säilytyspaikkana juuri tällaiselle pienelle sälälle. Ajattelin myös metsästää kivoja istuintyynyjä, joiden kanssa tällaisesta ikkunalaudasta voi nopeasti taikoa mukavan penkin kun tulee vieraita kylään. 

One thing I fell in love with on the first sight in this new flat is the wide window sills! They can be used as a side table or storage place for exactly these kind of tiny things. I also thought I'd search for some cushions that would easily transform the window sill into a comfy bench if I'm having guests over. 

Mutta tämän asunnon ihan ehdottomasti kaikkein parasta antia on kuitenkin keittiö! Ra-kas-tan tätä. Keittiö on tilava, valoisa ja juuri ennen mun muuttoa uusittu. Ihastuin hurjasti harmaiden kaappien ja messinkisten yksityiskohtien kauniiseen yhdistelmään, ja seinällä olevat avohyllyt on myös söpö yksityiskohta. Hyllyt on kuin jostain symppiksestä kahvilasta, ja siksi teinkin hyllyjen alapuolelle mun pienimuotoisen coffee stationin. Jääkaappikin on juuri tuossa vieressä kahvinkeittimen vasemmalla puolella, eli kauramaidon saa napattua helposti ja nopeasti hahah! Säilytystilaa löytyy paljon, ja koska talo on vanha niin keittiössä on super söpö vanha kuiva-ainekaappikin. Keittiöön pitäisi tosiaan löytää vielä uusi hieman isompi ruokapöytä ja paremmat/kivemmat tuolit, mutta toistaiseksi mennään näillä vanhoilla. 

However, the absolute best thing about this flat is the kitchen! I simply love this. The kitchen is spacious, bright and renovated just before I moved in. I totally fell in love with the beautiful combination of the grey kitchen cabinets and brass details. And the open shelves on the wall are such a cute little detail. They remind me of a cosy cafe, which is why I decided to build a little coffee station underneath them. The fridge is just next to the coffee machine on the left, so perfectly located so I can easily grab my oat milk when making coffee hahah! There's a lot of storage space, and as the building is old there's even a cute old cupboard for dry food items. I still need to find a new kitchen table and chairs, but for the time being my old ones serve me well enough. 

Eteisen ja makuuhuoneen väliin jää käytävätila, joka on juuri sopiva paikka tälle matalalle TV-tasolle. Telkkaria en tosiaan omista, mutta tämä taso toimii loistavasti nimenomaan tällaisena matalana pöytänä ja laskutilana. 

Keittiön säilytystilojen lisäksi täällä uudessa asunnossa on muutenkin todella hyvin säilytystilaa, ja eteisessäkin on vielä kaksi vanhaa vaatekomeroa jonne saa kätevästi ulkovaatteet, siivousvälineet, yms. piiloon. Myös kylppärissä on tarpeeksi kaappitilaa kaikille purkeille ja purnukoille, eikä mun enää tarvitse säilyttää esimerkiksi meikkejä pussukoissa lattialla, vaan ne mahtuvat oikeasti sinne kylppärin kaappeihin. 

Vielä on tosiaan joitakin hankintoja tekemättä, mutta mielummin odotan ja teen harkitun hyvän ostopäätöksen kuin hankin jotakin nopeasti vain koska on pakko. Parveke on myös edelleen täysin koskematon, eli sinnekin täytyy löytää jotkin kivat parvekekalusteet ja muuta mahdollista sisustusta. Odotan kyllä innolla partsin laittamista kuntoon nyt kun näyttää siltä että kelien puolesta parvekkeesta voisi päästä nauttimaankin. 

There's a little corridor space between the hallway and the bedroom, which was just perfect for this low TV stand. I don't own a TV, but the stand is well suited to work as a low table like this. 

Alongside the storage space in the kitchen, there's plenty of room for storing things in the flat in general. There are two separate old clothes cupboards in the hallway into which I can hide my outerwear, cleaning items, etc. And the bathroom has enough space for storing all of my cosmetics, and I don't need to store e.g. my make up in pouches on the floor anymore as everything fits inside the bathroom cabinets. 

Like I mentioned, a few things are still on the 'new flat shopping list', but I rather wait and make a good and well considered purchase than buy something quickly just for the sake of it. The balcony is still totally untouched too, so I need to find furniture and possibly some other balcony interior items. I'm really looking forward to putting the balcony together though, especially now that the weather seems quite promising when it comes to actually enjoying having a balcony.

Onko siellä muita, jotka aina näin tammikuussa uuden vuoden alkamisen myötä innostuvat kodin laittamisesta ja sisustamisesta taas ihan uudella tavalla? Ehkä se on tämä pikku hiljaa lisääntyvä valon määrä ja ajatus pian lähestyvästä keväästä, jotka saavat sisustuskärpäsen puremaan ja inspiraation lisääntymään. Vaikka uuteen asuntoon muuttaminen olisikin ihanaa, niin mainitsin vähän aikaa sitten myös kuinka olen tehnyt pieniä muutoksia kotini sisustukseen. Ja pienillä muutoksilla voi saada jo paljon aikaa, nimittäin jo nyt koti näyttää ja tuntuu taas paljon freshimmältä. Tänään siis pitkästä aikaa kotijuttuja ja esittelyyn muutamia uudistuksia täältä mun yksiöstä!

Anyone else who always gets a burst of home interiors inspiration in January when the new year kicks off? Maybe it's the daylight that's increasing little by little and the idea of the upcoming spring that make the interior bug bite. Although moving to a completely new apartment would be lovely too, a little while ago I also mentioned how I've been making little changes to the interiors in my current home. You can certainly make a big difference with a few little updates, and I'm already liking my home a whole lot more now that it looks a bit more fresh. I haven't written about any home things in a while, so this blogpost is all about the few little interior updates I've made here in my studio flat!

Olen jo pidemmän aikaa kaipaillut jotain matalaa sivupöytää tuomaan lisää laskutilaa ja helpottamaan tavaroiden säilytystä. Vanhempani laittoivat olohuoneen TV-tason vaihtoon, joten heidän vanha taso päätyi minulle. Tämä JYSKin kaksitasoinen Dokkedal-taso betonipäällisellä ja mustalla metallirungolla toi heti uutta ja vähän skandinaavisempaa ilmettä. Tason päällä pari viherkasvia ja kultaiser koruastiat puolestaan toimivat kivoina yksityiskohtina, ja uudella Mapifulilta tilatulla Helsinki-julisteella sai seinälle uutta ilmettä. Tämä nurkkaus onkin nykyään mun suosikkikohta täällä kotona. 

I've been wanting and needing a low side table to create more space to put things on and to help with storage issues. My parents got a new TV stand, so their old one found a new home at my place. This JYSK Dokkedal two-level TV bench with a concrete surface and black metal frame instantly brought new and more Scandinavian styled vibes. The two plants and golden jewellery box and trinket act as cute little details, whereas the new Helsinki poster from Mapiful livens up the wall. This little corner is actually my favourite spot at home just now.

Myös pöytä meni hiljattain vaihtoon, ja sekä työpöydän että ruokapöydän virkaa toimittanut Ikean versio sai väistyä tämän pienen pyöreän pöydän tieltä. Olin jo jonkin aikaa haaveillut pyöreästä pöydästä, mutta kannatti ehdottomasti malttaa mielensä, sillä joululomalla bongasin FB-kirppikseltä tämän. Ja vitsi että se sopiikin tänne hyvin ja on juuri sellainen kun olin etsinytkin. Hintakaan ei päätä huimannut, sillä maksoin pöydästä vain 20€. Alun perin JYSKistä tämäkin! 

I also got a new table recently, and the old IKEA desk that served as a desk as well as my dining table got to make space for this little white round table. I had had a small white round table in mind for a while, and I'm so glad I waited with it as I ultimately spotted this one on Facebook marketplace during the Christmas holidays. And it is exactly what I had been looking for and fits so well in here! And the best thing is that it only cost 20€. This one is originally from JYSK too!

Koska TV-taso tuli vaaterekin vanhalle paikalle, piti rekille keksiä jokin uusi lokaatio ja niinpä rekki päätyi ikkunan eteen. Tykkään hurjasti vaaterekistä sisustuselementtinä, ihan jo käytännöllisyydenkin vuoksi, mutta siihen on myös kiva ripustaa esille kunkin sesongin suosikit ja kauneimmat vaatteet. Kesällä rekki täyttyi mekoista, tällä hetkellä puolestaan näyttää kovin bleiseri- ja neulepainotteiselta. 

As the TV stand is now where my clothing rail was before, I obviously had to find a new spot for the rail. And therefore I ended up placing it in front of the window. I really like clothing rails as part of interiors, also because of the functionality of them, but they're a great way to showcase your favourite clothing items of each season as well. In summer the rail was covered with dresses, whereas now it is very blazer and knitwear focused.

Yksi suosikkielementtejä kodissani on tämä mielettömän kaunis antiikkityylinen peili, joka olikin itse asiassa ensimmäinen juttu jonka tänne ylipäätään hankin. Täytyy muuten antaa ekstrapisteitä JYSKin huonekalu- ja sisustusvalikoimalle, tämä peilikin on nimittäin sieltä hankittu. Bongasin sen hyvästä alennuksesta viime keväänä jo muutama viikko ennen muuttopäivää, ja tykkään siitä edelleen ihan yhtä paljon. Peili vilahtelee tiuhaan tahtiin myös Instagram Storyssani, koska tämän peilin edessä nappaan melkeinpä joka aamu kuvan kunkin päivän asusta.

One of my favourite elements in my home is this gorgeous antique styled mirror, that was actually the very first item I purchased when I knew I was going to move. I really have to give a special mention for the furniture and interiors selection at JYSK, as this mirror is also from there. I spotted it with a heavily discounted price tag last spring a good few weeks before my moving day, and I still like it just as much. If you follow my daily outfit updates on my Instagram story, you might have spotted this mirror a good few times as it is exactly here where I take a snap of my ootds every morning.

My Studio Apartment in Helsinki

Perjantain kunniaksi se lupailemani asunnonesittelyvideo! Kuten videollakin totean, joitakin pieniä juttuja uusi koti vielä kaipaa, mutta pääasiassa tavarat on löytäneet kutakuinkin paikoilleen. It's Friday and time for the flat tour video that I promised! As I say on the video too, there are still some little things that I would like to get into this new home of mine, but for the most part furniture and everything else have found their places. Then again, decorating is one of those things that will never be completely 'finished'. I hope you like the video, and with that I'm wishing you all a lovely weekend filled with sunshine ♥︎

How to Decorate with Fashion: Easy and Affordable Ways

Koska vaateet, asusteet ja muoti yleisestikin on luotu näyttämään hyvältä, oon sitä mieltä että niiden estetiikkaa kannattaa ehdottomasti hyödyntää myös sisustuksessa. Varsikin näin opiskelijana kun ei viitsi mitään suuria sisustushankintoja- ja investointeja tehdä, ja erityisesti kun tietää että nykyinen asunto on kuitenkin tietyllä tapaa vain väliaikainen ratkaisu, kannattaa ehdottomasti hyödyntää niin sanotusti sitä mitä jo valmiiksi löytyy. Pienillä muutoksilla ja esimerkiksi esillä olevien elementtien vaihtelulla sesonkien mukaan pystyy helposti ja nopeasti piristämään pienenkin huoneen ilmettä. Itse tein tällaisen huoneen freesauksen taas vähän aikaa sitten, ja nappasin samalla muutamat kuvat näyttämään kuinka itse hyödynnän muotielementtejä sisustuksessa!

Since clothes, accessories and fashion in general have been made to look good, I personally think that their aesthetics should definitely be utilised in home decor too. As a student I can't and don't even want to make any huge interior investments, especially since I know that the current living arrangements and situation is only temporary anyway. Therefore I like to use what I've got already instead of buying lots of new things to decorate with. Even small changes and for example switching things up a bit according to the changing seasons is an easy and quick way to spark up even a small room. I did a little refreshment like this not too long ago and took a few snaps along the way to show you how I personally use different kinds of fashion elements in my bedroom decoration!

Vaaterekki // Rail

Vaaterekki on ihan loistava tapa tuoda sisustukseen lisää muotielementtejä mukaan. Rekki on tietysti myös käytännöllinen vaatteiden säilytyksen suhteen, sillä omat eniten käytetyt suosikkivaatteet pysyy helposti käden ulottuvilla ja on nopeasti saatavilla aamulla pukiessa. Oon myös huomannut että aina rekin sisältöä päivittäessä tulee melkeinpä vahingossa keksittyä uusia yhdistelmiä kun samaan henkariin laittaa eri yläosia. Muun muassa tämän postauksen neulemekko ja bleiseri -yhdistelmä syntyi nimenomaan näin "vahingossa". 

A rail is an amazing way to bring in some fashion to the interiors. Of course it's also useful when it comes to actually storing some of the clothing items too since you can keep your favourite and most-used clothes readily on hand. I've also noticed how I always come up with new outfit ideas when updating my rail items by layering different tops on the hangers. For example the jumper dress and blazer combination in this post was a result of an 'accident' like that.

Korut, kellot ja hiusasusteet // Jewellery, watches and hair accessories

Koska monet korvakorut, kaulakorut, rannekorut, kellot, hiuskoristeet ja monet muut asusteet on ihan sinälläänkin jo todella kauniita, niin miksipäs niitä kaappeihin piilottelemaan? Laittamalla kauneimmat suosikkikorut nätisti esille saa helposti ja edullisesti lisättyä pienenkin huoneen sisustukseen vähän ylellisyyden tuntua. Käytännöllisyysnäkökulmasta katsoen suosikkikorujen ja -asusteiden pitäminen esillä tekee sekin pukeutumisesta hieman nopeampaa ja helpompaa kun ne eniten käytetyt on aina näkyvillä ja helposti saatavilla. 

Many of the earrings, necklaces, bracelets, watches, and hair and other accessories are already beautiful per se, so why keep them hidden in darkness? Displaying some of the accessories beautifully is also an easy and affordable way to add a touch of luxe to the bedroom decor, no matter the size or outlook of the room. And when it comes to practicality, it's also convenient to have your favourite accessories easily within reach to speed up the morning dress up a bit. 

Laukut // Bags

Omasta mielestäni laukut on aivan ihana elementti hyödyntää sisustuksessa, ja mulla onkin niitä esillä vähän joka huoneen nurkassa. Kirjakasan päällä, lehtipinon päällä, roikkumassa ovinaulakossa, lattialla... Paikkavaihtoehdot on oikeastaan rajattomat ja helposti muutettavissa aina kun kaipaa vaihtelua. 

In my opinion bags are a lovely element to make use of in home decor, and I've got some of mine scattered strategically around the room. On top of a pile of books or magazines, hanging on the door nail, on the floor... The place options really are quite limitless and easily modifiable when it comes to decorating with handbags. 

Kengät // Shoes

Laukkujen ja korujen tapaan myös monet kengät on jo sinällään niin kivannäköisiä, että ne ansaitsee mielestäni paikkansa pikemminkin jossain näkyvillä kuin pimeään kaappiin piilotettuna. Kenkien avulla sisustukseen saa myös helposti lisättyä vähän väriä ja leikkisyyttä, riippuen tietysti siitä minkälaisia kenkiä esillä pitää. Mulla kuitenkin esimerkiksi nämä punaiset nilkkurit toimii pienenä väripilkkuna, kun taas usein esillä pitämäni Minna Parikan puputennarit on hauska ja leikkisä piristys sisustukseen. 

Alongside bags and accessories, I think many shoes are beautiful to just look at too and so they deserve their spot somewhere to be seen rather than hidden away in a closet. Shoes can also add a nice little pop of colour or playfulness to the interiors, depending of course on the style of shoes you want to keep on display. But for example in my room the red ankle boots work as a splash of colour, whereas the Minna Parikka bunny sneakers I often like to keep somewhere on show add a fun and playful element to the decoration.

Dreams for the Home

Ketään muuta, jolla aina näin kevään tullessa ja valon lisääntyessä nousee hirveä sisustuskuume? Pinterest on käynyt kuumana viime aikoina, haavelista kasvaa kasvamistaan, ideoita olisi vaikka kuinka ja lähtökohtaisesti tekisi mieli laittaa ihan kaikki uusiksi. Eikä asiaa yhtään ainakaan helpota se, että uusi Suomi-koti rakentuu parhaillaan ja raksalta tulevissa kuvapäivityksissä sisätilatkin alkaa jo ihan oikeasti näyttämään talolta ja kodilta. Mun resurssit ei taida ihan riittää kaiken uusimiseen, mutta onneksi haaveilla (ja pinnailla!) voi aina. Yhteistyössä BoConceptin kanssa selailin heidän valikoimaansa, ja sieltä löytyi myös juuri niitä juttuja, joita mun Pinterest-taulukin on tällä hetkellä pullollaan. BoConceptillahan on huonekaluliike niin Glasgow'ssa kuin Helsingissäkin, eli täytyy varmaan jossain vaiheessa käydä ihailemassa valikoimaa ihan paikan päälläkin.

Anyone else, who always at this time of the year when spring is fast approaching and days are getting lighter and longer just want to redecorate their whole home? I've been spending a lot of time pinning all things home lately, my home decor wishlist is growing longer and longer, I've got so many ideas I'd like to put into practice, and in general I would just love to redo the whole interiors. And what's certainly not helping, is the fact that the new family home back in Finland is starting to look more and more like a house where you can actually live in, at least judging by the photo updates I get sent on a weekly basis. Sadly, I don't think I've got the resources to redo absolutely everything, but luckily you can always dream (and pin!). In collaboration with BoConcept I had a good scroll through their selection, and I found a lot of the things that my Pinterest board is full of. BoConcept has furniture stores in Glasgow as well as in Helsinki, so I think a real-life visit has to happen at some point too. 

En ehkä olisi uskonut sanovani tätä, mutta tällä hetkellä todella haaveilen suuresta, muhkeasta ja pehmeästä vaaleanpunaisesta sohvasta. Avarassa ja valoisassa olohuoneessa vaaleanpunainen sohva näyttäisi ihan mielettömän hyvältä, ja olisi juuri sopiva katseenvangitsija. Tähän aikaan vuodesta sitä jotenkin aina kaipaa sisustukseen raikkautta, ja söpö pinkki sohva toisi kyllä juurikin sitä. BoConceptilta bongasin upean vaaleanpunaisen Osaka-sohvan, jonka ottaisin kyllä enemmän kuin mielelläni osaksi sisustusta.

A couple of years ago I wouldn't have believed I'd ever say this, but right now I'm really dreaming about a huge, soft and comfy pink sofa. In a spacious and light living room a pink sofa would look absolutely amazing and be just the perfect eye-catcher. This time of the year you always crave something fresh to your home interiors, and a cute pink sofa would definitely deliver just that. From BoConcept I spotted this gorgeous Osaka sofa, that I would be more than happy to introduce to my home. 

Toinen tällä hetkellä omaa silmääni kovasti miellyttävä sisustuselementti on valkoiset, hieman kupumaiset keittiön tuolit. BoConceptilla näitä oli muutamiakin erilaisia, mutta nämä Adelaide-tuolit nousi lopulta mun lemppareiksi. Näitäkin on tullut Pinterestissä ja muissa sisustusinspiraationlähteissä viime aikoina usein vastaan, ja vaikka aluksi tuoleja hieman ehkä kummaksuin, niin nyt oon vakuuttunut siitä että valkoiset kuputuolit on joskus vielä saatava omaankin kotiin. Ei näköjään ole väliä onko kyse muodista vai sisustuksesta, kun silmän tottuessa aluksi oudoltakin näyttävät jutut iskee lopulta muhunkin.

Another interior element I'm really liking at the moment is white, a bit domed looking kitchen chairs. BoConcept also has several different versions of these, but my personal favourite turned out to be the Adelaide chairs. I've spotted a lot of these on Pinterest and on other interior inspiration sources recently, and although at first I thought they look a bit strange, now that my eye has gotten used to the look of them I'm convinced that these are the chairs I need for my home sometime in the future too. Apparently it doesn't matter whether it's about fashion or interiors, if I just see something enough for my eye to get used to, then ultimately I'm going to be a fan too.

Pyöreitä peilejä, viherkasveja ja erityisesti näitä yhdessä oon myös pinnaillut Home Dreams & Ideas -tauluuni viime aikoina. Pyöreät peilit on mun mielestä hauskoja yksityiskohtia, ja jotenkin mielenkiintoisemman näköisiä kuin ne ihan perinteiset suorakulmion muotoiset peilit. Ihan erityisesti tällainen Ring-peili toimisi mielestäni loistavasti kylppärissä, mutta myös esimerkiksi eteisen tai aulan seinälle sijoitettu iso pyöreä peili näyttäisi mun silmään todella hyvältä.  Ja totta kai kevään tullen varmasti jokainen kaipaa kotiinsa vähän lisää vihreyttä, vehreyttä ja elinvoimaa horroksesta heräävän luonnon mukaan. Tällä hetkellä itseäni inspiroi erityisesti erilaisille alustoille ja tavanomaisesta poikkeaviin ruukkuihin ja paikkoihin asetetut kasvit, ja juurikin kuvassa näkyvään tapaan katosta roikkuvat viherkasvit olisi aivan ihana piristys sisustukseen, esimerkiksi BoConceptin Macrame-ruukun muodossa.

Round mirrors and green plants, and especially these two together, are something I've been pinning frequently to my Home Dreams & Ideas Pinterest board. I think round mirrors are such a fun detail and look more interesting than the traditional rectangular ones. I'm especially loving round mirrors like this Ring one in bathroom decor right now, but they'd also look really good on the hallway wall for instance. And of course, come spring time I'm pretty sure everyone just wants to add all the plants into their homes to waken it up at the same time with the nature that's slowly coming alive again too. At the moment I'm really inspired by putting house plants on different platforms and in out-of-ordinary places, and for example hanging plants from the celling with the Macrame flowerpot would be such a perfect spring refresh for the home.

New Home: Update

Meidän IKEA-tilaus saapui kotiovelle alkuviikosta, eli nyt alkaa pikku hiljaa vihdoin kaikki koti- ja sisustushankinnat olemaan valmiina. Tosin oon kyllä jo aikoja sitten tullut siihen tulokseen, että sisustus ei varmaan koskaan tule oikeasti "valmiiksi", sillä aina tekee mieli päivittää, lisätä tai muuttaa jotakin. Onneksi pienilläkin jutuilla saa kuitenkin paljon aikaan, ja muutaman pienen lisäyksen jälkeen on viihtyisyys ja kodikkuus taas lisääntynyt täälläkin. Tältä siis näyttää mun/meidän luona nyt, ja jos missasit ensimmäisen vilkauksen uuteen kotiin, niin sen pääset katsomaan täältä!

Our IKEA order was delivered earlier this week, so now I feel like the new home finally starts to be somewhat ready. Although, I've come to the conclusion that home and interiors are things that will probably never be completely finished, as there's always something you want to update, add or change. But luckily a few little things can make a huge difference already, and after a few additions like that my room feels a lot more cosy and homey again. So this is how my room in our new home looks like right now, and if you missed the first glance you can see it here!

Vihdoin sain itselleni tosiaan sen vaaterekin, josta olen haaveillut jo vuosia. Aiempiin huoneisiini sellainen ei kuitenkaan syystä tai toisesta ole koskaan mahtunut, joten nyt kun huonekorkeus ja tila muutenkin antoi periksi halusin ehdottomasti rakentaa itselleni tällaisen pienen pukeutumisnurkkauksen. Ja rekillä olevia vaatteita vaihtamallahan saa sisustusta päivitettyä helposti ja kätevästi aina sesongin mukaan!

Finally I've got myself a clothing rack that I've been dreaming about for years. For one reason or another I've never been able to fit one into my room before, so now that the room height and space in general finally allowed it, I definitely wanted to build myself a little dressing corner like this. And by switching up the clothes on display, it'll be really easy to update the room decor according to seasons!

This candle delivery from Cherry Soda couldn't have arrived at a better time, as I received it in the post earlier this week too. Ei siihen tosiaan paljoa vaadittu, että sain huoneesta vielä viihtyisämmän ja kodikkaamman. Oon kyllä ihan erityisen ihastunut tuohon mun pieneen pukeutumisnurkkaukseen, ja sen myötä saan aseteltua lempivaatteet ja -asusteet kauniisti esille sisustuselementeiksi. En ole mikään suuri Halloweenin juhlija, joten siihen liittyviä koristuksia ei täältä löydy, mutta eiköhän tässä muutaman viikon kuluessa pidä hankkia edes jotain pientä jouluista luomaan tunnelmaa. Kaipaisin myös ehkä vähän lisää jotakin vihreää huonekasvien muodossa. Niin kuin sanoin, ei se sisustus taida koskaan tulla ihan oikeasti valmiiksi ;)

It definitely didn't require a lot of money or effort to make my room even more cosy and homey. I'm especially in love with that little dressing corner, and now I can also use some of my favourite clothes and accessories as decorative pieces. I'm not hugely into Halloween so I'm skipping the Halloween decorations completely, but I think in a few weeks time there will be some Christmas decorations going up to create a bit of that Christmas atmosphere. And I'm still thinking about adding some greenery in the form of a house plant or two. Like I said, decoration is one of those things that'll probably never be completely finished ;)

New Home: First Glance

Viime sunnuntaina oli viimeinkin se päivä kun minä ja tavarat hypättiin pakuun ja vaihdettiin osoitetta. Käytännössä vain yhden pienen huoneen muuttaminen onnistuikin paljon sujuvammin ja nopeammin kuin olin kuvitellut, ja jo sunnuntai-iltana oli suurin osa tavaroista kutakuinkin purettu ja paikoillaan. Vähän vielä kaikki etsii ja löytää paikkaansa ja muutamia hankintojakin on vielä tehtävä, mutta ne saa kuitenkin odottaa yhteistä Ikea-reissua kunhan muutkin tytöt kotiutuu uuteen asuntoon. Mun ostoslistalla on ainakin vaaterekki nyt kun vihdoin saan sellaisen huoneeseeni mahtumaan! Vähän lisää säilytystilaa ja muita pikkuhankintoja on myös vielä tehtävä, ja lisäksi yhteisen olkkarin ja keittiön laittaminen luonnollisesti odottaa sitä että ollaan kaikki tekemässä päätöksiä. Kotipostauksille on kuitenkin tuntunut olevan kysyntää, joten päätinkin aloittaa ne tällaisella pienellä ensisilmäyksellä mun uuteen makuuhuoneeseen. Lisää kotijuttuja on varmasti tulossa vielä myöhemmin syksyllä kunhan saadaan Ikea-reissut ja kaikki tarvittavat hankinnat tehtyä. Mutta tältä siis näyttää mun kotona tällä hetkellä!

Last Sunday was finally the day when I hopped into a van with all my stuff and officially moved to the new flat. Moving the contents of basically just one small room went much more smoothly and quickly than I had imagined, and on Sunday night I had already unpacked most of my things and put them to their places. Of course everything is still searching and finding their places a bit, and I've got a few things I need to buy too but those will have to wait our flat Ikea trip when the rest of the girls move in as well. At least a clothing rack is a must for me now that I can actually fit one into my room! And generally a little bit more storage space and some little purchases are on the shopping list. Decorating the kitchen and the lounge will naturally have to wait too so we can make decisions together. But I've gotten quite a few requests for home posts already, so I thought I'd start with a little first glance to my new bedroom. There's bound to be more home decor posts later in the Autumn after the Ikea trips and additional purchases have been made, but here's how my bedroom is looking at the moment!

Autumn 2017 Life Update: Home and University

Mulla on koko kesän ajan täällä kulissien takana ollut käynnissä pieni projekti, josta en ole blogin ja sosiaalisen median puolella kauheasti puhunut. Nimittäin projekti asunnon metsästys. Iso-Britannian asuntoasioista mulla olisi aika paljonkin sanottavaa, sillä tässä on kyllä nähnyt ja kuullut vähän kaikenlaista. Mikäli muuten siellä puolen ruutua on ihmisiä, jotka suunnittelevat tänne muuttoa tai opiskelemaan lähtöä, niin vastaan mielelläni ja parhaani mukaan kaikkiin kysymyksiin. Jos kiinnostusta löytyy niin voisin tehdä aiheesta myös Q&A-postauksen, nyt kun täällä yliopistoon paluu ja hakeminen alkaa taas olemaan ajankohtaista.

Throughout the Summer I've had a little project going on behind the scenes, a project that I basically haven't shared anything about here on the blog or on any of my social media channels. And that project is called flat hunting. I've got a whole lot to say about the UK flat situation, but that might be a topic for a whole another post. I've also been thinking about possibly doing a Q&A post on all things moving and studying abroad now that it starts to get current again, so let me know if that's something you'd be interested in.



Muutaman kuukauden stressaamisen jälkeen voin kuitenkin vihdoin kertoa, että keskiviikkona allekirjoitettiin vuokrasopimus ja mä pääsen ihan virallisesti muuttamaan pois opiskelija-asuntolasta ihan oikeaan ihanaan kämppään kahden hyvän ystäväni kanssa. Tätä hetkeä oon oottanut kuin kuuta nousevaa, ja nyt sormet jo syyhyää päästä laittamaan asunnosta meidän näköistä. Viikonloppu meneekin varmasti pitkälti kaikkia koti-juttuja puuhastellessa ja uuteen asuinalueeseen paremmin tutustuessa. Kotiin ja sisustukseen liittyviä juttuja tulee siis varmasti lähitulevaisuudessa näkymään täällä blogissakin, mutta mikäs sen parempaa kun näin syksyn tullen sisustus- ja kodinlaittoinnostus tuntuu taas heräävän vähän kaikilla. Täällä ainakin on sattuneista syistä innostus huipussaan, voi olla että Ikea, Primark Home ja ihan vasta viime viikkolla Glasgow'ssa auennut H&M Home tulee pian aika tutuiksi.

After a few stressful months I'm however finally able to tell you that on Wednesday we signed a lease contract and I get to officially move out from student halls and move into a real lovely flat with two of my close friends. I've been waiting for this moment for such a long time, and I'm obviously super excited to start decorating the new flat and make it look like 'us'. So this weekend will most probably be spent surrounded by and doing lots of home related things and wandering around the new neighbourhood. This also means that there will be some home and decor posts on the blog too in the near future. But what could be better than that, as now that Autumn is here almost everyone gets that urge to redecorate and update their homes again. At least that's what happens to me pretty much every year when Autumn comes around. I believe that Ikea, Primark Home and H&M Home that finally opened here in Glasgow last week will become my go-to stores for the next few weeks. 



Asuntojuttujen selviämisen lisäksi mulla on kyllä muutenkin sellainen fiilis, että tästä syksystä tulee aika mahtava. Blogin ja Instagramin puolella on luvassa uusia mielenkiintoisia projekteja, ja kuukauden päästä alkava toinen yliopisto-vuosikin tuo mukanaan kaikenlaista uutta kivaa. Opintojen pitäisi myös tänä vuonna edetä vähän nopeammalla tahdilla ja keskittyä enemmän nimenomaan muotipuoleen. Varsinaisten kurssien ulkopuolella olen tänä vuonna myös yliopiston Fashion Societyn toimikunnassa, enkä malta odottaa että päästään järkkäämään kaikkea kivaa senkin kautta. Ai että, mulla on tästä syksystä kyllä nyt niin hyvä fiilis. Bring it on! ♥︎

Alongside getting the flat situation finally sorted I've got a feeling that this Autumn will be quite a good one otherwise too. There's new and interesting projects coming up with the blog and Instagram, and my second year in uni that's starting in a month will also bring lots of new things to my life. This year the studies are also supposed to go forward at a bit quicker pace and focus more specifically to fashion. And outside of the courses I'm also in our university's Fashion Society committee this year, and I can't wait to start planning and organising everything for that. Ah, I'm just feeling so good about these next few months right now. Bring it on, Autumn! ♥︎

My Home Away From Home

Koska muiden ihmisten koteihin on aina niin kiva kurkkia, halusin vilauttaa teillekin osia mun home away from home'sta. Ihan rehellisesti sanottuna koko huone ja kylppäri oli aivan järkyttävän näköiset kun ensimmäisen kerran astuin tänne sisälle, mutta pieni siivous ja sisustaminen teki tehtävänsä, ja loppujen lopuksi tästä tuli niin viihtyisä ja mun näköinen kuin tästä vain pystyi tekemään. Oon siis tosi tyytyväinen lopputulokseen, kyllä täällä nyt ainakin tän vuoden asustelee! 

As it's always so nice to take a peek inside of other people's homes, I wanted to show you some glimpses of my home away from home too. To be quite honest, the whole room and bathroom looked just horrible when I first stepped my foot inside, but a little bit of cleaning and decorating worked wonders and ultimately we managed to make this room as cozy and 'me' as one possibly can with a room like this. I'm so happy with the result and I'll easily manage at least the year ahead in here! 

Iso ja muhkea sänky tekee jo paljon koko yleisilmeelle, sillä sänky on kuitenkin koko huoneen isoin yksittäinen elementti. Vaaleat värit raikastaa pientä huonetta ihan älyttömän paljon, ja tuo myös vähän lisää tilan tuntua. Otin jonkin verran tekstiileitä mukaan jo Suomesta ja puuttuvat jutut ostettiin sitten vielä täältä paikan päältä. Täällä on muuten tyynyt ja peitot eri standardikokoa kuin Suomessa, eikä edes Ikeasta saa samankokoisia. Suomalaiset petivaatteet kyllä sopii brittikokoisiin peittoihin ja tyynyihin, mutta näyttävät vaan vähän hassuilta. Pieni vinkki siis niille, jotka suunnittelevat ulkomaille muuttoa! 

A big and puffy bed does a lot for the whole appearance of the room, as the bed is the biggest singular element in the room. Light colors brighten up the room a lot, and they also create the illusion of having more space. I brought some of the textiles with me from home, and then we bought the missing pieces from here. Oh and by the way, one thing I hadn't even thought about was that apparently different countries have different size standards for pillows and duvets, so that's something to keep in mind if you're planning to move abroad!

Kotoa mukaan lähtenyt taulu, kaikki kosmetiikka ja lempparikorut löysi nekin nopeasti paikkansa. Astioita mulla on ehkä jopa vähän liikaa, mutta esim. nää Lexingtonin siniset megamukit toimii ihan loistavasti muussakin kuin alkuperäisessä käyttötarkoituksessaan. 

The poster I took from home, all of my cosmetics and favourite jewellery also found their places quite quickly. I might even have a little bit too much of tableware in here, but for example these huge blue mugs by Lexington work really well in other uses than the one they were originally meant for. 

Sellaisia yksityiskohtia siis täällä mun pienessä kämpässä! Miltä näyttää teidän silmään?
