5 Tips on How to Be More Productive

The busiest time of the year is just around the corner and especially in the university world (and all around the school world I'm sure!) almost every student is stressing about the constantly increasing workload, some more than the others. I also believe, that in many workplaces the pre Christmas business is quickly approaching. And that's why I wanted to share a few tips on how to be more productive and get as much done as possible, even on those days when you feel like that the 24 hours just aren't enough.

1. Oikea asenne

2. To do -lista

Itse oon kirjoittanut kalenteriin melkein päivittäisiä to-do listoja nyt jo useamman vuoden ajan.

1. The right attitude

When you wake up in the morning and decide that today will be productive, the chances of your day actually being productive are much higher. Get up, drink your morning coffee and get to work!

2. To do list

I've been writing almost daily to do lists to my diary a few years now. Making a list makes it easier to understand everything you need / want to get done during the day, and my personal lists are filled with both big and small tasks. For example on Monday my list consisted of going through lecture slides, answering an email and working on an essay. And then there's of course the rewarding feeling of getting to rule out the tasks once you've finished!

3. Aikatauluttaminen

Oman hyväksi todetun aikataulun seuraaminen on ainakin itselleni todella tärkeää, mikäli haluan saada päivän aikana kaiken suunnittelemani tehdyksi.

4. Palkitse itsesi

Jakso Gossip Girliä Netflixistä lukurupeaman jälkeen tai Instagram-breikki puolen tunnin välein esseetä kirjoittaessa on mulle ainakin hyvä tapa motivoida itseäni. Pienet palkinnot pitkin päivää sinne tänne ripoteltuna auttaa jaksamaan, mutta totta kai myös isommat ponnistukset vaatii isommat palkinnotkin ;)

3. Scheduling

At least for me, creating a personal and well working schedule is super important if I want to get everything I've planned done. Time blocking works best for me when doing school work, i.e. I decide that I'm going to read for the next hour and a half, or I'm going to work on my essay for an hour. Household chores on the other hand get done from start to finish in one go.

4. Reward yourself

An episode of Gossip Girl on Netflix after reading or little Instagram break every half an hour when writing that essay is a good way to motivate myself. Small rewards throughout the day help to manage all the work there is to do, but of course bigger efforts require bigger rewards ;)

Sitä paitsi, kun esimerkiksi viikonloppuna latailee akkuja ihan kunnolla, on arkena taas energiaa yliviivailla kohtia to do -listalta.

5. It's ok to do nothing

Probably the most important thing, however, is to understand that no one can be productive all the time. And that's perfectly ok. Everyone needs lazy days and you definitely shouldn't feel guilty about them. Besides, if you properly charge your batteries during the weekend you're more likely to have energy to be productive and get things done during the week.

  2. Lists are a big thing for me, I can't think straight unless I make one with all the things I need to do on.
