The Foolproof Summer Outfit Formula

Meistä jokaisella on varmasti niitä pettämättömiä, aina toimivia asukokonaisuuksia jotka tulee syystä tai toisesta valittua päälle useammin kuin monet muut asukokonaisuudet. Tänä kesänä mun tällainen luottoyhdistelmä on ollut juurikin kuvien mukainen toppi + shortsit + bleiseri -kokonaisuus. Ja toppina nimenomaan Monkin super mukava ribbattu perustoppi, jonka hankin kesän alussa niin beigenä, mustana kuin valkoisenakin. Päivästä ja fiiliksestä riippuen shortsit ja bleiseri on sitten vain vaihtuneet, välillä ollaan menty farkkushortseilla ja seuraavana päivänä puolestaan nahkashortseilla. Tänä kesänä ehdottomasti eniten käyttämäni bleiserit ovatkin olleet tämä vintage-löytö pellavableiseri, rennompi vihreä bleiseri, tai vähän ryhdikkäämpi beige bleiseri. 

I believe we all have those never failing, always working outfit combinations that we tend to wear more often, for one reason or another. This summer my go-to foolproof outfit like this has been this kind of a top + shorts + blazer look. And the top specifically being one of the super comfy ribbed singlets from Monki that I purchased in beige, black and white at the start of the summer. Then depending on the day and my mood, I've been just switching up the shorts and blazer I am wearing. Sometimes it's been denim shorts, and the next I've been feeling more edgy and opted for a pair of leather ones. As for the blazers, the ones I've been using hands down the most this summer have been this vintage linen blazer, a more casual green one, or my beloved and more structured camel blazer.

Tämä yhdistelmä on tosiaan niin sanotusti pomminvarma, eikä tällä vain yksinkertaisesti voi mennä pieleen! Kokonaisuus itsessään jättää myös kivasti varaa vaihtelulle mitä näihin asun elementteihin tulee. Yhtenä päivänä voi pukea juurikin ne farkkushortsit ja vihreän bleiserin, ja seuraavana sitten nahkashortsit ja beigen bleiserin. Myös kenkien, laukkujen ja muiden asusteiden/yksityiskohtien suhteen jää kivasti liikkumavaraa. Tällainen kokonaisuus toimiikin hyvin arjessa lenkkareiden ja jonkin isomman arkikassin kanssa, kun taas iltamenoissa samankaltainen kombo toimisi aivan yhtä hyvin korkokenkien ja pikkulaukun kanssa. Tämä "pohja" tuleekin siis varmasti olemaan ahkerassa käytössä vielä tulevaisuudessakin, niin nyt loppukesän aikana kuin vielä vuosienkin päästä. Tällainen ajaton asukokonaisuus nimittäin toimii trendeihin katsomatta vuodesta toiseen! 

This combination surely is foolproof, and it's a look that you just can't go wrong with! The combination per se also leaves nicely enough room for changing the different elements of the outfit. One day it can be those denim shorts and a green blazer, and then some other day it's the leather shorts and the camel blazer. The options when it comes to shoes, bags and other accessories are also pretty endless. This type of an outfit works really well on a daily basis with a pair of trainers on the feet and a bigger, everyday tote on your arm, whereas during the evening hours the same kind of a combo would work equally well with a pair of high heels and a clutch bag. I'm sure this base formula will be getting lots and lots of use and wear in the future, not only this summer but for many years to come. This kind of a timeless outfit formula that isn't heavily relied on or influenced by trends simply works year after another!

3 Reasons to Love Hats

Mä rakastan hattuja, ja ne kuuluu ehdottomasti mun suosikkiasusteisiin. Erilaiset hatut sopii joka sesonkiin, ja siinä missä talvella tietysti pipo tai muu lämmin hattu on se ainoa oikea vaihtoehto, niin kesällä puolestaan olkihatut ja lippikset on ihan täydellisiä asujen viimeistelijöitä. Fedorat taas, kuten mulla näissä kuvissa, soveltuu ihan kaikkiin sesonkeihin. Lue eteenpäin niin selviää ne kolme syytä, miksi hatut on mun mielestä niin loistavia! 

I love hats, and they're definitely some of my favourite accessories. There are different types of hats for every season, and whereas during winter months it is woollen bobble hats and the kind that are the only reasonable option, during summertime it's straw hats and caps that are the perfect little detail to finish an outfit with. Fedora hats on the other hand, like the one I'm wearing here, are suitable for all seasons. Read on to find out the three reasons why I think hats are so great! 

1. Tyylikäs asuste

Hatut on tosiaan tyylikkäitä asusteita, joilla voi helposti ja nopeasti viimeistellä minkä tahansa lookin. Itse ainakin tunnen oloni aina astetta tyylikkäämmäksi ja elegantimmaksi hattu päässä. Ja kyllähän se tekee asusta nimenomaan viimeistellymmän ja mietitymmän näköisen. 

2. Käytännöllinen lämmittäjä

Hattujen, niin kuin oikeastaan ihan kaikkien vaatekappaleiden, alkuperäinen tarkoitushan on nimenomaan suojata ja pitää lämpimänä. Talvisin käytänkin pipoja ja hattuja ensisijaisesti nimenomaan niiden lämmittävyyden ja käytännöllisyyden vuoksi. 

1. A stylish accessory

Like mentioned, hats are stylish accessories that can be used to quickly and easily finalise any look. At least personally I always feel a little bit more elegant when wearing a hat. And it definitely does make your outfit look more put-together. 

2. Keeps the head warm

The original purpose of hats, as every item of clothing actually, is to protect and keep you warm. In winter I use bobble hats and other warmer headwear pieces exactly for the reason that they keep my head warm.

3. Huonon hiuspäivän piilottaja

Rehellisesti sanottuna, ehkä kahdeksan kertaa kymmenestä kun mut voi bongata hattu päässä, syy on nimenomaan se että hiukset on oikeasti olleet vähän liian monta päivää pesemättä, tai on muuten vain huono hiuspäivä. Sellaisina päivinä hatut toimii aivan täydellisesti tekemään omasta fiiliksestäkin nimenomaan tyylikkäämmän ja huolitellumman. Tämä on kokeiltu ja todettu toimivaksi moneen kertaan!

3. They hide a bad hair day

Honestly speaking, maybe around eight times out of ten when you can spot me wearing a hat, the reason is exactly that my hair is dirty or I'm otherwise having a bad hair day. On those days hats work especially well to make me feel and look more elegant and put-together. This has been tried and proved many a time!

Friday Favourites: Week 29

Paras uutinen: Tällä viikolla on ollut uutisten suhteen aika hiljaista, eikä sen suurempaa raportoitavaa taida olla... Vastaan siis sen, että lämpimät kesäkelit näyttäisi tulevan takaisin ja päästään viettämään tyttöjen mökkiviikonloppua helteistä nauttien! EDIT: Postauksen julkaisemisen jälkeen perjantaina sain tietää että olen voittanut kahvilahjakortin Proggikseen, eli siitä tuli viikon paras uutinen!

Paras ostos: Ihan ehdottomasti niinkin jännittävä ja mielenkiintoinen hankinta kuin imuri 😄 Oon tosiaan ollut tähän asti ilman imuria, välillä joko lainannut porukoilta tai sitten hoitanut siivoamisen kuiva moppi + kostea moppi -järjestelyllä, eli kun maanantaina kävin vihdoin hakemassa vieläpä virtaviivaisen varsi-imurin niin tän mummelin elämänlaatu (tai ainakin kodin siisteys) parantui selvästi. 

Favourite news: This week has actually been quite quiet on the news front, and I don't have anything major to report... So I'm going to say the fact that summer seems to have made a short comeback and we get to spend a girls' cottage weekend enjoying heatwave temperatures! EDIT: After publishing this post on Friday I was informed that I've won a coffee voucher to Proggis, so that became the best piece of news of the week!

Favourite purchase: Something as exciting and interesting as a new hoover, without a doubt 😄 I've lived without one thus far, only occasionally borrowing my parents' hoover or relying on dry mop + damp mop method. So the quality of this granny's life (or at least the cleanliness of the flat) increased massively when I went and bought a sleek stick hoover on Monday.

Paras kirja: Tällä hetkellä luen Plutarkhoksen Mielen tyyneydestä -kirjaa. Antiikin ajan filosofiset teokset ei ole niitä joihin tulisi tartuttua kaikkein useimmin, mutta sain kirjan lahjaksi ja on itse asiassa hämmästyttävää kuinka hyvin se soveltuu myös ihan nykyihmiselle! 

Paras sarja: Younger pyörii C More:sta edelleen, ihan niin kuin edellisessäkin 'Friday Favourites' -postauksessa. Iso suositus jos et vielä ole katsonut! 

Favourite book: Right now I'm reading Plutarch's texts. The ancient Greek philosophers are not something I usually opt for when deciding what to read, but I got the book as a present and it is actually quite amazing how well those texts also apply to the modern human!

Favourite series: I'm still watching Younger, just like in the previous 'Friday Favourites' post. Definitely recommend watching it if you haven't already!

Paras asu: No juurikin tämä kuvissakin näkyvä, tiistaina päällä ollut valkoinen maksimekko + rento farkkutakki -look! Mulla oli tiistaina taas ihan kesäfiilis eli pukeutumisessa mentiin myös sen mukaan, tosin myönnettäköön että Helsingin viileä tuuli pääsi hieman yllättämään ja asu oli tuuliseen päivään kuitenkin vielä vähän liian kesäinen. Mutta nyt menisi uusintana taas varmasti! 

Favourite outfit: This white maxi dress + casual denim jacket look from Tuesday! I was feeling the summer vibes when I woke up, so obviously I picked my outfit accordingly. Although I do have to admit that the Helsinki sea wind took me a little bit by surprise and for a windy day like that this outfit was a little bit too summery. 

Paras kohtaaminen: Nähtiin tiistaina Inkan ja Hennan kanssa, ja vaikka meininki oli välillä zombiemaisen väsynyttä (siis oikeasti, käveltiin kadulla vieretysten kaikki apaattisina eteen tuijottaen), niin näitä tyttöjä on silti aina yhtä ihana nähdä.

Favourite encounter: I met up with Inka and Henna on Tuesday, and although we were all feeling zombie-like tired (seriously, we were walking down the street all three of us just staring into nothingness), it is always so lovely to see these girls. 

Paras ruoka: Käytiin tyttöjen kanssa meille jo melkein perinteeksi muodostuneeseen tapaan Green Hippossa, ja tilasin ensimmäistä kertaa riisinuudeli-bowlin, joka oli super hyvä. Toisaalta mun mielestä mikä tahansa mihin kuuluu maapähkinävoikastike ei voi olla kuin herkkua!

Paras juoma: Tällä viikolla on tosiaan ollut jotenkin todella väsy fiilis, eli pakko sanoa kahvi.

Favourite food: The girls and I ended up lunching at Green Hippo Cafe again, it's honestly becoming a tradition at this rate. I ordered the rice noodle bowl that I haven't tried before, and it was super yummy. Then again, anything that comes with a peanut butter sauce gets a thumbs up from me! 

Favourite drink: I've been feeling really tired this week for some reason, so I have to say coffee.

Paras kauneustuote: Remingtonin vähän ohuempi, kärkeä kohti kapeneva puikkokiharrin, jonka otin käyttöön taas monen vuoden tauon jälkeen. Kiva saada vähän vaihtelua kiharoihin, ja näidenkin kuvien kiharat on juuri sillä kihartimella tehty. 

Paras havainto: Niska-/hartiaseudun jumin ja kivun helpottaminen! Mulla on ollut vasen puoli todella jumissa viime aikoina, niin pahasti että se on haitannut jo unta ja hyvä ettei välillä ole itkua väännetty. Nyt alkaa kuitenkin helpottamaan, mikä tuntuu aivan ihanalta! 

Favourite beauty product: The slightly narrower curling wand from Remington, which I took out again for the first time in years. Love having a little bit of a different look to my curls, and you can see the result it gives in these images. 

Favourite observation: Alleviation of the stiffness and pain around my neck/shoulder area! The left side has been super stiff and sore lately, so much so that it has disturbed my sleep and almost had me in tears from time to time. But it's definitely getting better now, which feels amazing!

A Denim Girl's Denim Guide

Pakko myöntää, että niin ihania kuin ne kesähelteet olivatkin ja vaikka kaipaankin niitä myös edelleen takaisin, niin on ollut jotenkin aika kivaa ja virkistävää vetää taas farkkuja jalkaan. Kerran farkkutyttö, aina farkkutyttö 😉 Mulla onkin kaapissa muutamat parit, joihin luotan ja jotka vedän jalkaan aina uudelleen ja uudelleen. Oon sitä mieltä, että toimiva ja tarpeeksi monipuolinen farkkuvalikoima on myös yksi toimivan ja monipuolisen vaatekaapin peruspilareista. Tähän postaukseen listasinkin omat valintani toimivan farkkukaapin rakentamiseksi. 

I have to say that as amazing as that heatwave was and as much as I do want it back, it has been quite nice and somehow refreshing to wear jeans again. Once a denim girl, always a denim girl 😉 I've got a few pairs of jeans in my wardrobe that I can always count on and rewear time and time again. I think that a good and versatile denim selection is one of the bases for a good and versatile wardrobe in general. In this post you'll find my picks for building a good denim wardrobe. 

Rennot Mutsifarkut // Casual Mom Jeans

Aloitetaan tästä kuvissakin näkyvästä, varmasti koko farkkukaappini käytetyimmästä parista, eli Asosin Farleigh High Waisted Mom Jeans -farkuista. Nämä rennot ysärityyliset mammafarkut tosiaan valikoituu käteen melkein kuin automaattisesti. Farkut on mukavat päällä, varsinkin nyt kun ne on parin vuoden aikana pehmentyneet ja muokkautuneet ihan täydellisesti, ja sininen väri on omaan makuuni juuri sopiva keskisininen - ei liian vaalea eikä liian tumma niin että farkkuja tulee käytettyä ihan ympäri vuoden. Asosin farkuille voin muutenkin antaa lämpimän suosituksen, näiden lisäksi mulla on aiemmin ollut myös brändin omat Rivington-farkut parissakin eri värissä. 

Let's start with the pair that must be my most used pair and which you can also see in the photos of this post. That is, these Asos Farleigh High Waisted Mom Jeans. These casual, slightly 90s influenced mom jeans are the pair I opt for almost automatically. The jeans are comfortable to wear, especially now that during these couple of years they have had time to soften and form perfectly, and the mid-blue tone is just the right kind of in-between light and dark wash in order for me to keep wearing this pair year around. Asos jeans in general get a thumbs up from me, and I've also had the Asos own brand Rivington jeans in a couple of washes.

Jokapäivän Pillifarkut // Everyday Skinny Jeans

Ennen kuin pääsin mutsifarkkujen makuun, taisin joskus väittää että en tule koskaan käyttämään muita kuin pillifarkkuja. Vaikka niitä tulee nykyään käytettyä vähemmän kuin aiemmin, on hyvät pillifarkut mielestäni ehdottomasti yksi toimivan farkkukaapin must-juttuja. Omat pillifarkkuni ovat GAP:in mustat Mid Rise Favorite Jeggings -farkut, jotka muuten saavat erityispisteet siitä että ne ovat säilyttäneet sekä mallinsa että värinsä pesukerroista huolimatta! Pillifarkuissa tärkeintä on että väri, vyötärön korkeus ja lahkeen pituus on omaan vaatekaappiin ja tyyliin sopiva. Mustat farkut on kuitenkin sen verran monipuolisesti yhdisteltävissä, että ne sopii kaikkein parhaiten omaan farkkukaappiini. 

Before I got devoted to the more casual mom jeans, I remember saying that skinny jeans would be the only jeans I'd ever wear. Even though I don't wear them that often anymore, I do still think that a good pair of skinny jeans are one of the denim wardrobe must haves. My skinny jeans are the black GAP Mid Rise Favorite Jeggings, which also have to be given credit for the fact that they have hold their shape and colour despite washing! When it comes to skinny jeans, the most important thing is that the colour, the height of the waist and the length of the leg are something that suit your personal style and wardrobe. The reason why I've chosen a pair of black skinny jeans into my denim wardrobe is that they're so easy and versatile to style into different outfits.

Vaaleat Farkut // Light Jeans

Vaaleat farkut on loistava lisä farkkukaappiin erityisesti näin kesäaikaan, vaikka itse tosin käytän vaaleita farkkuja ihan vuoden ympäri. Jos ihan vitivalkoinen tuntuu liian aralta tai ei muuten vain houkuttele, niin hieman kermaan tai norsuunluunvalkoiseen taittava sävy on täydellinen. Mulla on itse asiassa yhdet ihan vitivalkoiset farkut, mutta kaikkein eniten käytän nimenomaan ennemminkin luonnonvalkoista kuin sitä ihan vitivalkoista paria. 

A pair of light jeans are the perfect addition to a denim wardrobe especially now during the summertime, although I do wear mine no matter the season. If pure snow white colour feels too intimidating then a more off-white or ivory toned pair is the perfect option. I actually have a pair of snow white jeans in my wardrobe too, but I don't wear them nearly as often as I wear my off-white coloured jeans.

Yllättäjä-farkut // Miscellaneous Jeans

Viimeisenä vielä yllättäjä-farkut! Tämä pari on se vähän erikoisempi, nimenomaan yllättävä ja kaikkein perinteisimmästä poikkeava pari - mitä ikinä se kenellekin tarkoittaa. Omassa kaapissani tämän yllättäjä-farkut -tittelin vie nämä Topshopin vajaamittaiset revityt farkut, jotka ei tosiaan ole se omaan tyyliini kaikkein luonnollisimmin istuva pari. Mutta juuri sen takia ne tuokin ihanaa vaihtelua farkku-lookeihin, ja ne valitsen jalkaani nimenomaan niinä päivinä kun haluan pukeutua tavallaan johonkin tuttuun ja turvalliseen, eli niihin farkkuihin, mutta kuitenkin vetää päälleni edes vähän jotain erilaista. Mutta sulle yllättäjä-farkut saattaa tarkoittaa jotain ihan muuta: kirjailuja, revittyjä yksityiskohtia, niittejä, nyörejä, super rentoa boyfriend-mallia... Vain taivas on rajana! 

And lastly a pair that I'm going to name the miscellaneous jeans! This pair is the little bit different, a bit surprising and most out of the ordinary pair in your denim wardrobe - whatever that might be just for you. In my wardrobe the title of the miscellaneous jeans goes to this pair of straight and cropped Topshop jeans with a frayed hem, as it is definitely the pair that doesn't fit the most naturally into my style. But that's exactly the reason why they bring variation into my denim looks and it's the pair I choose to wear on those days when I want to kind of wear something tried and tested, i.e. denim, but have a at least a bit of a surprising wow-factor in my outfit. But for you a pair of miscellaneous jeans could mean something totally different: embroidery, distressed details, studs, ribbons, super relaxed boyfriend fit... The sky really is the limit here!

Graduation Outfit: Lilac Mini Wrap Dress

Lupasin perjantain postauksessa, että laitan tänne blogiinkin vielä parempia kuvia mekosta, joka päällä juhlin lauantaina valmistujaisiani. Joten tässäpä tulee! Vaaleanlila on tosiaan tällä hetkellä mun ehdoton värirakkaus, eli kun bongasin tämän upeuden &Other Storiesilta, niin enhän mä voinut olla pistämättä mekkoa tilaukseen. Vaikka myönnettäköön, että mietin myös samaa mekkoa mulle aina niin tutussa ja turvallisessa beigessä värissä. Mutta koska kyseessä oli kuitenkin sen verran spesiaalitilaisuus, niin päätin kerrankin repäistä ja valita jotain värikkäämpää. Ja onhan tämä laventeliin taittava vaaleanlila väri nyt ihan mielettömän söpö! 

On Friday's post I promised to show you better pictures of the dress I wore to my graduation celebrations on Saturday, so here goes! I'm majorly crushing on the light lilac colour just now, so when I spotted this beauty at &Other Stories, I simply could not not order it. Although admittedly I did first consider ordering the dress in my very safe and dear beige colour. But as it was for a more special occasion, I decided that now is exactly the time to opt for something more colourful. And let's face it, this lavender / lilac colour is just super cute!

Juhlat sujuivat muutenkin todella hyvin, ja vaikka tosiaan kunnon seremonia hattuineen ja kaapuineen jäi nyt meidän vuosikurssilta puuttumaan, niin oli ihanaa että pystyttiin juhlimaan edes näin ystävä- ja perhepiirissä mun valmistumista BA (Hons) International Fashion Branding -tutkinnosta. Tällaisia juhlia on kuitenkin loppujen lopuksi sen verran harvoin, että näitä on aina kiva järjestää sekä olla vieraanakin. Mutta ihan erityisesti nyt korona-kevään jälkeen tuntui ihan äärettömän tärkeältä ja ihanalta järjestää kaikille lähimmäisille kunnon juhlat. Ja tuli kyllä taas sellainen kiitollisuuden ja onnellisuuden puuska siitä, kuinka ihania ihmisiä oon onnistunut elämääni haalimaan. Kiitos myös kaikista onnitteluista joita olen saanut teiltä, nekin on nimittäin tuoneet hymyn huulilleen ja kiitollisuuden tunteen sydämeen!

The party went really well, and even though us, the class of 2020, have the graduation ceremonies cancelled, it was lovely to throw a little get-together for friends and family. There are not many of these kind of family parties anyway, so it is always nice to arrange one and be a guest too. And even more so now after everything that went down (or didn't to be precise) this summer because of the coronavirus, it was even more important to me that I could throw a party for friends and family. And I once again got that huge surge of gratitude and happiness thinking about how many amazing people I actually have in my life. And thank you for all your messages and congratulations as well, they've also brought a smile onto my face and a feeling of gratitude into my heart!
