Vaikka tällä hetkellä mun sydän sykkii kovaa kaikille ihanille vaaleille neutraaleille väreille, niin siitä ei pääse mihinkään että kokomusta toimii aina! Klassinen, tyylikäs, elegantti, ja helppo vetää päälle silloin kun ei jaksa tai ehdi sen enempää miettimään. Tai kun kaapissa ei ole juuri muuta fiksua vaihtoehtoa, kuten oli mun tilanne tämän viikon maanantaina. Suurin osa vaatekaapista ja kaikki ehdottomat lempparivaatteet oli nimittäin tiukasti pakattu matkalaukkuun odottamaan tiistain lentoa. Kaapista kuitenkin löytyi vielä Glasgow'hun kesän ajaksi odottamaan jääviä vaatekappaleita, joista sain koottua kasaan tämän oikein mukiinmenevän kokomustan asun. Ja faktahan on se, että nämä parin vuoden takaiset River Islandin punaiset nilkkurit, jotka olen sopivasti nimennyt mun 'confidence bootseiksi', tekee asusta kuin asusta heti huomattavasti skarpimman ja tyylikkäämmän!
Although I have a bit of a thing for all the lighter neutral tones right now, there's just no denying that an all black outfit never fails! It's classic, chic, elegant and easy to throw on when you don't have the brain power to think about anything else to wear. Or when you actually don't have anything else to wear, which was pretty much my case on Monday when the majority of the contents of my wardrobe were already tightly packed into my suitcase to wait for Tuesday's flight. Luckily I still had a few pieces in my closet that I would be leaving to Glasgow for the summer, and I managed to pull together this all black outfit. And the fact is, that this pair of red ankle boots from River Island a couple of years ago, that I've named my 'confidence boots', make any and every outfit look smarter and chicer!
Tiukasti pakkaamisesta puheen ollen, tällä kertaa olikin kamat ihan erityisen tiukasti laukkuun survottuna... Glasgow'sta ei tule suoria lentoja Helsinkiin, joten lensin tällä kertaa Gatwickin kautta. Lentoja ostaessa olin tietysti ottanut Skyscannerin tarjoaman halvimman fiksun vaihtoehdon, mikä tässä tapauksessa tarkoitti sitä että lennot piti tehdä kahdella eri varauksella, vieläpä kun ensimmäinen Glasgow-Gatwick -pätkä oli British Airwaysin operoima, ja Gatwickista puolestaan tulin Norwegianilla Helsinki-Vantaalle. Tästä syystä mun pitikin sitten ottaa matkalaukku ulos Gatwickilla ja checkata se uudelleen seuraavalle lennolle. Ei siinä mitään, mulla oli onneksi ihan hyvin aikaa, mutta vasta lentokentällä laukkua uudelleen checkatessa tuli ilmi että ilmeisesti BA:n ja Norwegianin laukkujen painorajat eivät olekaan samat, kun Norskin vaaka ilmoitti laukussa olevan liikaa painoa. Hetken aikaa ähisin ja puhisin ja siirsin tavaraa isosta matkalaukusta käsimatkatavaroihin, joihin onneksi sain tungettua sen verran kamaa että sain ison matkalaukun ilman lisäkuluja ruumaan.
Seuraava yllätys tulikin sitten portilla ennen lentoa. Mulla oli matkassa käsimatkatavaroina käsilaukku ja pieni matkalaukku kuten aina ennenkin, ja portilla virkailija käski heittää molemmat laukut vaa'alle. Norwegian sallii 10kg käsimatkatavaraa per matkustaja, ja mitäpä näyttää vaaka mun laukkujen kanssa? 15,4 kiloa! Siinä sitten virkailija totesi, että vähennä painoa tai checkaa laukku ruumaan. 80 punnalla. Mun ähinät ja puhinat matkatavaroiden kanssa jatkui kun mietin mitä sieltä voisi jättää pois tai mitä voisin pukea päälleni. Kymmenisen minuuttia laukkujen kanssa säädettyäni ja muutamat kyyneleetkin tirautettuani toinen virkailija totesi, että koska kone tulisi melkein täyteen on osa käsimatkatavaroista pakko laittaa ruumaan, siis myös niiltä joiden laukuissa ei ollut liikaa painoa. Ja tämähän tehdään siis matkustajalle täysin veloituksetta. Huhhuh! Meinasi tulla kallis reissu, mutta onneksi sain kaikki kamat tällä kertaa Helsinkiin ilman yllättäviä lisäkuluja. Ottakaa siis mun virheistä opiksi, ja tarkistakaa etukäteen sallitut painorajat varsikin jos lennätte kahdella eri lentoyhtiöillä. Erityisesti kun toinen on halpalentoyhtiö. Ensi kerralla kyllä tarkkuutta tähän itsekin!
Speaking of packing tightly, this time I really had done so... There are no direct flights from Glasgow to Helsinki, and this time I flew via Gatwick. When booking my flights I had obviously went for the cheapest option Skyscanner offered that was still without a 24-hour or so transfer time. And this time it meant that I had had to make two separate bookings, the first flight being with British Airways and then the Gatwick-Helsinki part with Norwegian. And because of the two separate bookings, I had to recheck my baggage again at Gatwick. That was all well and good albeit a bit of an unexpected surprise that I hadn't thought of, but I had a 4.5-hour transfer time anyway. But it was only at Gatwick when I realised that BA and Norwegian don't have the same weight allowance as the Norwegian scale just told me that my suitcase was too heavy. Oh well, no can do but to move things from the big suitcase to my hand luggage then, and luckily I did manage to cram in enough stuff so that I survived without additional charges with the big suitcase.
Another surprise was waiting for me at the gate just before boarding the plane. For my hand luggage I had a handbag and a small cabin bag that would go to the overhead lockers, just like I always do. At the gate the staff asked me to place both pieces of my hand luggage to the scale to weigh them as the Norwegian hand luggage weight allowance is 10kg in total per person. And what did the number on the scale show for mine? 15.4 kg! The staff just told me to 'reduce the weight or check it in'. Which would have costed me £80. I spent a good moment huffing and puffing and trying to think what to leave out or if there was anything I could wear on me. Some time and a few tears later another member of staff told me that they had ran out of space in the overhead lockers and needed to start putting customers' hand luggage on hold anyway. And that is obviously with no additional cost to the customer. Phewww!! It was close to being a lot more expensive journey back home than anticipated, but luckily I did manage to get all of my luggage to Helsinki with me without any surprising and unplanned costs. So learn form my mistake, and check the luggage weight allowance beforehand, especially when flying with two different airlines of which the other one is a low cost one. Something I definitely need to keep in mind for next time!
