5 Tips on How to Play with Textures

Myönnetään, mä olen tyylin ja monen muunkin elämän osa-alueen suhteen aika kaavoihin kangistunut. Viime aikoina erityisesti vaatteiden ja pukeutumisen suhteen olen kuitenkin innostunut kokeilemaan uusia juttuja ja erilaisia yhdistelmiä. Yhtenä hyvänä esimerkkinä on uudet ja erilaiset materiaalit vaatekaapissa. Esimerkiksi sametti on materiaali, joka on kiinnostanut jo pitkään, mutta jota olen hieman arkaillut lähteä oikeasti kokeilemaan ja käyttämään omassa pukeutumisessa. Nyt kuitenkin tartuin niin sanotusti härkää sarvista sametin kanssa, ja lopputulos oli se että ihastuin samettiin hurjasti! Tähän postaukseen kokosinkin omat parhaimmat vinkkini siihen, kuinka lähteä leikkimään erilaisilla materiaaleilla ja tekstuureilla.

Let's face it, I'm a creature of habit when it comes to style and pretty much all other aspects of life as well. However, lately I've been into trying new things and different combinations especially on the style and clothing front. A good example is introducing new materials into my wardrobe. Velvet for example is a material that I've been shyly interested in for quite a while already, but which I've felt a little intimidated by in order to actually go and wear it. However, now I grabbed the bull by its horns so to speak, decided to wear velvet and ended up loving it. And so in this post I've put together my best tips on how to play with different textures and materials.

5 vinkkiä erilaisten materiaalien käyttöön pukeutumisessa

1. Valitse yksi tuttu ja turvallinen materiaali.

Jos erikoisemmat materiaalit ja tekstuurit hieman jännittävät, niin valitse yksi tuttu ja turvallinen materiaali, johon yhdistät jotakin uutta ja erilaista. Esimerkiksi farkku on turvallinen valinta meistä monelle, ja siihen voi helposti yhdistää monia erilaisia muita tekstuureja ja materiaaleja. Esimerkiksi sametti sopii loistavasti yhteen farkun kanssa.

5 tips on wearing different materials

1. Pick one safe and trusted material.

If you feel a little bit intimidated by the more special materials and textures, then pick one material that you know you like already and combine it with something new and different. For example denim is a safe choice for many of us, and you can easily combine lots of different other textures and materials with it. For example velvet looks really good together with denim pieces. 

2. Tai valitse yksi villi kortti.

Vastaavasti voit heittää edellisen vinkin ympäri ja valita nimenomaan sen yhden materiaalin, joka kiinnostaa mutta hieman jännittää ja lähteä rakentamaan kokonaisuutta sen ympärille. 

3. Pidä väripaletti hillittynä.

Kun asun värimaailma on hillitty, erilaisilla tekstuureilla leikkiminen tuntuu turvallisemmalta. Musta sametti tai valkoinen pörrökangas ovat helmpompia yhdistää ja turvallisemman tuntuisia kuin sähkönsininen tai kirkkaan pinkki. 

2. Or pick one wild card.

Or you can throw the last point onto its head and choose one material that you'd like to try but are maybe a bit hesitant about. Then just go and build your look around that item in the more special and new-to-you material.

3. Keep the colour palette neutral.

When the colour palette is kept quite neutral and muted, it feels safer to play with textures. Black velvet or white borg/teddy material are easier to combine and feel safer than electric blue or bright pink. 

4. Valitse erilaiset materiaalit "luottovaatteisiin". 

Materiaaleilla ja tekstuureilla on helpompi lähteä leikkimään kun valitsee vaatteeksi jonkun oman luottovaatteen, esimerkiksi juurikin bleiserin. Kun päällä on oma luottovaate, fiilis on mukava ja itsevarma. Itse en esimerkiksi lähtisi kokeilemaan samettia vaikkapa boiler suit -tyylisessä haalarissa koska yhdistelmä olisi itselleni too much, mutta nimenomaan bleiserissä sametti tuntuu todella omalta vaikka materiaali onkin mulle uusi. 

5. Ole rohkea.

Ja viimeisenä muttei todellakaan vähäisimpänä, lähde vain rohkeasti kokeilemaan erilaisia materiaaleja, tekstuureja ja niiden yhdistelmiä! Saatat yhtäkkiä löytääkin vaikka uuden suosikkiasun tai lempimateriaalin. 

4. Choose your wardrobe essentials in different materials.

When you choose one of your go-to items, a blazer for example, to try in a different and special material in, it feels easier and safer to try new textures. Wearing an item that's a staple piece in your wardrobe instantly makes you feel more comfortable and confident. Personally I wouldn't wear e.g. a velvet boiler suit because the combination of velvet and the boiler suit itself would be too much for me, but a blazer is a whole another thing. A velvet blazer feels like me, even though the material is something new in my wardrobe. 

5. Be brave.

And last but definitely not least, be brave and just do it! Wear and try different materials and textures and combinations. And who knows, you might end up finding a new favourite outfit or favourite material.

Favourite Stores for Winter Accessories

Tällä viikolla on tuntunut siltä, että talvi on todellakin tullut. H&M 

H&M on ihan ehdottomasti mun ensimmäinen vaihtoehto talviasusteiden hankintaan. Valikoima on monipuolinen ja H&M:ltä löytyy talviasusteita aina ajattomista villasukista ja klassisista nahkahanskoista trendikkäämpiin juttuihin, kuten tämän talven ehdottomiin hitteihin eli kaulureihin ja kypärämyssyihin. H&M:n talviasusteissa on myös hinta-laatusuhde kohdallaan, ja erityisesti brändin Premium Collection -mallistosta voi tehdä huippulöytöjä. Itse olen luottanut H&M:n lämpimiin asusteisiin jo vuosia, ja luotan varmasti jatkossakin. 

H&M is hands down my number one destination when buying winter accessories. They've got a versatile selection of items ranging all the way from warm and timeless wool socks and classic leather gloves to trendier pieces, such as the must-have accessories of this season like collars and balaclavas. The H&M winter accessories are also great value for money, and you can also make some amazing finds from the H&M Premium Collection line. Personally I've relied on H&M winter accessories for years already, and will certainly continue to do so for years to come.

Lindex

Lindex on totta kai vanha tuttu vuosien takaa, mutta brändin talviasusteet ovat itselleni uusi tuttavuus. Tilatessani tässä postauksessa näkyneet keinonahkahousut muutama viikko sitten, lisäsin tilaukseen myös täydennystä talven asustevalikoimaani vihreän pipon, vaalean lilan neulotun pannan sekä ihan perus sormikkaiden muodossa. En ollut oikeastaan koskaan aiemmin tutustunut Lindexin asusteisiin ylipäätään ja valikoima yllättikin todella positiivisesti. Perinteisten hattujen, korujen, huivien ja muiden asusteiden lisäksi Lindexin asustemallistoon kuuluu myös esimerkiksi lukulaseja ja laukkujen irrotettavia olkahihnoja. 

Lindex is a brand I've known and used on and off basically forever, but the brand's winter accessories were a totally new category to me. But a few weeks ago when I ordered the faux leather trousers featured in this blogpost, I also added a green beanie, a lilac knitted headband and a pair of basic gloves into my shopping basket. Lindex accessories in general were something I had not used before, and their whole accessory selection really impressed me. Alongside the traditional hats, jewellery, scarves and other accessories, they've also got e.g. reading glasses and detachable bag straps in their selection. 

BikBok

Mulla on edelleen käytössä monta monta vuotta vanha BikBokin harmaa iso huivi, jonka kiedon kaulaan vähintään viitenä päivänä seitsemästä niiden noin yhdeksän kuukauden aikana kun huivia tarvitsee. Siksi mun onkin pakko nostaa myös BikBok tälle listalle. Tänä vuonna BikBokin talviasustevalikoiman parasta antia on kuitenkin ehdottomasti trendikkäät kaulurit ja super pehmeän ja lämpimän näköiset lapaset. 

I've had a big cosy grey blanket scarf from BikBok for years and I still use it probably on five days out of seven during those approximately nine months when a scarf is definitely needed. So I simply have to feature BikBok on this list too. However, this season the best what BikBok winter accessories category has to offer are the trendy collars and super soft and warm looking mittens.

The Perfect Pre-Christmas Look

Pikkujoulusesonki alkaa käydä kuumimmillaan, ja johan se joulukuukin vaihtuu jo parin viikon päästä. Voisin jälleen kerran ihmetellä ajan kulumista, mutta keskitytään kuitenkin sen sijaan itse asiaan, eli pikkujoulukauden pukeutumiseen. 

The pre-Christmas and festive season in general is starting to be in full swing. And no wonder, we are entering December in just couple of weeks after all. I could yet again waste words for wondering how freaking quickly the time is passing, but let's not go there this time and focus instead on the actual subject, which is fashion for the festive season.

Helmiäinen housupuku pikkujouluhin

Pikkujoulupukeutumisesta tulee usein ensimmäisenä mieleen punainen väri, paljetit tai muut kimaltavat ja säihkyvät materiaalit, sekä klassinen pikkumusta. Kaikki toki hyviä vaihtoehtoja pikkujoulujen asuksi nekin, mutta mitäpä jos tänä vuonna päälle pukisikin jotain siitä tavanomaisesta kaavasta poikkeavaa? Vaikkapa sen kunniaksi, että nyt niitä pikkujouluja taas järjestetään. 

Perinteisten pikkujouluasujen sijaan vaalea ja helmiäisenä hehkuva housupuku on hieman erilainen, mutta ihan yhtä upea ja varmasti edukseen erottuva asuvalinta pikkujoulukauteen. Helmenvaalea ja hieman kuultava materiaali on kaikessa upeudessaan tarpeeksi juhlava, mutta ei överi. Housupuku itsessään taas on skarppi ja tyylikäs, mutta kuitenkin mukava. Paitaa, kenkiä ja asusteita muuttamalla pukua saa muokattua juhlavammaksi tai rennommaksi riippuen siitä, minkälainen tilaisuus on kyseessä. Korot jalkaan vähän fiinimpään tapahtumaan, kun taas rennommassa tilaisuudessa tämä puku näyttäisi upealta lenkkareiden kanssa. Ja jos asuun kaipaa sitä pikkujouluille ominaista punaista, niin punaista huulipunaa huuliin ja kokonaisuus on valmis! 

Pearly white suit for Pre-Christmas celebrations

When it comes to pre-Christmas fashion, the first things that often come to mind are red colour, sequins or other types of sparkly and shiny materials, as well as classic little black dresses. All very good options for a pre-Christmas celebration of course, but what if this season you'd wear something that's a little bit out of the ordinary and usual pre-Christmas style? If not for anything else, then to celebrate the fact that there actually are pre-Christmas events to attend this year. 

Instead of the more traditional pre-Christmas outfits, a light coloured suit with a pearly sheen to it is a different yet still a gorgeous outfit for the festive period, and will surely turn heads in the positive way. The pearly white colour combined with the sheeny fabric are the perfect degree of festive in all their beauty, yet not over the top at all. And as for the suit itself, it looks smart and elegant, but is comfortable to wear. By switching up the top, shoes and other accessories you can easily modify the overall look to be more festive or casual, depending on the nature of the event you're attending. Put on a pair of high heels when you need to look fancier, and if there's a more casual occasion in the plans then a pair of white trainers would look amazing with this suit. And if you still need that touch of traditional pre-Christmas red, swipe on a little bit of red lipstick to your lips and you're good to go!

Current Fashion Crushes

Tänä syksynä mulla on kaksi uutta värirakkautta: ruskea ja vihreä. Ja ne muuten toimii super kivasti yhdessäkin! Ruskea takki on näkynyt muun muassa tässä aiemmassa postauksessa, ja vihreää esimerkiksi tässä ja tässä postauksessa, takkien muodossa niissäkin. 

There are two colours that I've completely fallen in love with this autumn: brown and green. And they work wonderfully together too! You might have spotted the brown coat already e.g. in this post, and me wearing green e.g. in this and this post, in the form of outerwear in those too. 

Värirakkautta vihreään ja tummanruskeaan

Mutta takit ei ole ainoa vaatekappale, joissa ruskea ja vihreä väri ihastuttavat nyt itseäni ja monia muitakin. Vihreää ja ruskeaa näkyy nyt paljon ihan kaikissa vaatteissa ja asusteissa, ja kyllähän nämä maanläheiset ja neutraalit sävyt sopivat tähän syksyiseen vuodenaikaan todella hyvin. Syksyllä ja talvella pukeudutaan usein tummempiin sävyihin kuin keväällä ja kesällä, mutta esimerkiksi nimenomaan tummanruskea on pehmeämpi ja lämpimämpi väri kuin perinteinen talviväri musta. Musta väri näyttää usein aika kovalta ja kylmältä, ja saa ainakin allekirjoittaneen jo valmiiksi kalpeat talvikasvot näyttämään entistäkin kalpeammilta ja väsyneemmiltä. Tummanruskea puolestaan ei luo samanlaista efektiä, mikä onkin ehkä yksi syy ihastukselleni tummanruskeaa kohtaan. 

Colour crush on green and dark brown

But jackets and coats are not the only pieces of clothing where I'm into brown and green tones just now. And it seems that it's not only me, but that many others are getting more and more into the colours too. You can see green and brown tones in all the different items of clothing as well as accessories, and there is no denying that the neutral and muted tones are made for this time of the year. Autumn and winter months tend to be those when we wear darker tones compared to spring and summer season. However, when comparing brown with black, which is maybe the more traditional winter colour, brown looks softer and warmer. Black can easily look quite harsh and cold, and at least personally I feel like it makes my already pale winter complexion look even paler and more tired. Dark brown on the other hand doesn't create the same effect, which is probably one of the reasons for my current love for the colour.

Vaaterakkautta vajaamittaisiin suoriin nahkajäljitelmähousuihin

Ja siinä missä mulla on uusia väri-ihastuksia tälle sesongille, niin samoin on kyllä vaateihastuksia ihan yleisemminkin. Case in point on tällä kertaa nämä ruskeat vajaamittaiset nahkajäljitelmähousut. Olen todennut tämän aiemminkin, mutta kauas on tosiaan tultu ajoista kun mun jalassa ei näkynyt mitään muuta kuin mustat tai siniset pillifarkut päivästä toiseen. 

Olin pohtinut ja silmäillyt juurikin tällaisia istuvuudeltaan rentoja ja suoralahkeisia ruskeita tekonahkahousuja jo pitkin syksyä, kunnes bongasin ihanan Jonnan Insta-storyista nämä mustana. Päätin käydä vilkaisemassa josko Lindexillä olisi housuista mustien lisäksi myös ruskea versio, ja olihan siellä! Pistin samantien housut tilaukseen ja ne onkin olleet mulla jalassa useampana päivänä viikossa heti saapumisestaan lähtien. Aivan ihanaa vaihtelua housuvalikoimaan nimenomaan talvea silmällä pitäen ja sopivat super hyvin erilaisiin asukokonaisuuksiin erilaisten yläosien kanssa. Loppusyksyn ja talven suosikkihousut? Ehdottomasti! 

Clothing love for cropped straight leg faux leather trousers

And if I have new colour crushes for this season, I do have new clothing crushes in general too. Case in point being these straight leg cropped faux leather trousers. I've said this before, but I've certainly come a long way from the days when the only bottoms I would wear were either black or blue skinny jeans day in day out. 

I had had a pair of relaxed fit, straight legged faux leather trousers on my radar for a few weeks, and then I spotted this pair in black version on the lovely Jonna's Instagram story. I decided to check whether Lindex carried the trousers in brown alongside black, and they do! I clicked them to my shopping basket and ordered straight away, and I've worn the trousers multiple days a week ever since receiving my order. They provide great variety to my trousers collection especially with winter in mind, and the trousers can be styled in multiple different ways with many different outfits. Favourite trousers for the rest of the autumn and winter season? Definitely!

The Outfits I Love for Cosy Home Days

Kotoilun kultainen vuodenaika on täällä! Vaikka yritänkin pysyä edes jokseenkin aktiivisena ja sosiaalisena erityisesti tähän pimeään vuodenaikaan, koska se yksinkertaisesti tekee omasta fiiliksestä paremman ja auttaa jaksamaan, niin silti yksi parhaita asioita mitä tiedän on hyggeillä kotona, sytyttää muutama kynttilä, keittää kuppi suosikkiteetä ja laittaa joku hyvä sarja pyörimään tai syventyä lehden tai kirjan pariin. Kotona rentoillessa mulle on tärkeää että päällä on, noh, rennot ja mukavat vaatteetkin. Mutta koska vaatteet tuottaa mulle myös iloa, ja saan hurjasti nautintoa siitä kun päällä on kiva asukokonaisuus niin haluan pistää omaa silmää miellyttävät rennot vaatteet päälle myös kotoiluhetkinä. 

Tis' the season for hyggeing it up at home! Although I do try to keep at least somewhat active and social especially during this dark time of the year because it simply just makes me feel better, still one of the best things I know is to cosy up at home, light a few candles, pour a cup of my favourite tea and put on a good TV series or immerse myself into a book or a fashion magazine. When I'm chilling at home it's also important that I'm wearing something comfy and well, cosy. But as I do get a lot of joy from clothes and wearing a nice outfit, I also like to put on a home outfit that pleases my eye even if I'm just chilling.

Leggingsit + iso neule

Täydellinen rentoihin syys- ja talviviikonloppuihin. Rento, mukava ja lämmin kokonaisuus, joka on kuitenkin ihanan cosy chic. 

Leggingsit + rento kauluspaita

Samaa sarjaa kuin edellinen, mutta hieman skarpimpi. Rento ja hieman ylisuuri kauluspaita pitää kuitenkin kokonaisuuden mukavana ja kotona hengailuun sopivana. 

Collegehousut + toppi

Koska collegehousut ovat väljät, niiden kanssa puen mieluiten jonkin tyköistuvan yläosan, kuten ihan perustopin. Tätä samaa periaatetta käytän myös muussakin pukeutumisessa, kun alaosa on väljä niin yläosa saa olla tiukempi ja toisin päin. 

Leggingsit + lyhyt collegepusero

Tässä sporttisessa lookissa viihdyn super hyvin kotioloissa. Taas kun alaosassa on tiukat ja ihonmyötäiset leggingsit, niin yläosa saa mielellään olla rennompi. Korkeavyötäröiset leggingsit ja cropattu collegepusero ovat myös mittasuhteiden osalta super kivan näköiset yhdessä. 

Favourite outfits for cosy home days

Leggings + oversized knit

Perfect for cosy autumn and winter weekends. A casual, comfy and warm combo that looks very cosy chic. 

Leggings + oversized button down

Falls to the same category with the previous one, but is a little bit smarter. However, relaxed and a bit oversized shirt is till comfy and cosy enough for lounging around at home.

Sweatpants + camisole

As sweatpants are loose fitting, I like to wear something tighter on top with them. And a good old basic cami works wonderfully. This is an outfit philosophy I apply to pretty much every look, when the bottom fits more loosely then the top part of the look can be tighter and vice versa. 

Leggings + cropped sweatshirt

I love wearing this sporty look at home. And again, when there's a pair of tight fitting leggings on the bottom, then I prefer the top part of the outfit to be more loose. High-waisted leggings and a cropped sweatshirt is also a lovely look when it comes to proportions, the two just look super nice together.

Leveälahkeiset kangashousut + T-paita

Välillä kuitenkin tekee mieli pukea jotain rentoa ja väljää sekä yläosaan että alaosaan, ja silloin puen päälleni tämän kuvissakin näkyvän kotilookin. Ja hei, beigen ja valkoisen yhdistelmähän on aina hyvä vai mitä? 

Neulehousut + toppi

Pian on aika kaivaa neulehousut taas käyttöön, ne on mulle nimittäin talven kotoiluhousut numero yksi. Pehmeiden ja lämpimien neulehousujen pariksi valitsen usein myös ihan vain perustopin.

Ribbatut housut + T-paita

Ribbineuloshousujen kanssa puen usein yläosaksi T-paidan. Tämä on leveälahkeiset housut + t-paita kombon lisäksi toinen kotilook, jossa suosin rentoa istuvuutta sekä alaosassa että yläosassa. 

Minkälaisissa kotivaatteissa te viihdytte kaikkein parhaiten? 

Wide leg trousers + T-shirt

However, sometimes I do like to wear something looser fitting both on the top and the bottom. and that's when I put on this home outfit that you can see in the images. And hey, one can never go wrong with beige and white right? 

Knitted joggers + camisole

Soon it's time to get my knitted joggers out again, as they are the ultimate pair of winter loungewear for me. And with the knitted joggers I often opt for a plain and simple camisole to wear on top. 

Ribbed trousers + T-shirt

I usually choose to put on a basic T-shirt when I'm wearing a pair of ribbed trousers. Alongside the wide leg trousers + t-shirt look, this is another outfit where I prefer having looser fitting items both on the top as well as on the bottom.
