Instagramissa postaustoiveita kysellessäni sain eräältä seuraajalta ehdotuksen suomalaisen ja brittiläisen muodin / tyylin vertailusta. Ehdotus oli mun mielestä ihan super hyvä ja mielenkiintoinen, eli tässäpä siis mun huomioita suomalaisten ja brittiläisten tyyleistä ja niiden eroavaisuuksista, joita olen nyt näiden melkein neljän vuoden aikana pannut merkille. Jos siellä on muita Britannian suomalaisia niin olisi kiva kuulla, ootteko mun kanssa samaa mieltä? Tai ylipäätään muita ulkosuomalaisia, miten suomalaisten tyyli ja pukeutuminen eroaa asuinmaanne kansalaisten pukeutumistyyleistä? Niin ja hei, niitä postaustoiveita ja -ideoita saa aina heittää ilmoille, vaikken niiden perään sen erityisemmin kyselisikään!
A little while ago I asked on Instagram what you would like to read about, and I got a suggestion to do a blogpost comparing Finnish and UK style / fashion. I really liked the idea and thought it'd be an interesting one, so here you have it, some of the differences I've noted between the Finnish and British way of dressing during these almost four years I've lived here. If there are any other expats reading this, I would love to hear how the style and way of dressing of the people in your native country differ from that of the people in the country you live in? Oh, and remember that you can always keep those blogpost suggestions coming even if I don't specifically ask for them!
Suomalaiset pukeutuu huomattavasti konservatiivisemmin, kun taas brittien tyyli on usein rennompi ja boheemimpi - varsinkin nuorilla!
Kaikkein suurimman eron oon huomannut ehdottomasti siinä, mitä ihmiset pukevat päälleen ulos juhlimaan lähtiessä. Oli ulkona keli minkälainen tahansa, brittiläiset näyttää paljasta pintaa huomattavasti reippaammin ja lyhyet hameet ja pikkiriikkiset topit on se juttu.
Finns have a more conservative way of dressing, whereas the UK style is often a bit more casual and bohemian - especially on young people!
The absolutely biggest difference I've noticed is in the way people dress when they go out partying. No matter the weather, UK ladies dress a whole lot more revealing and to me it seems like it's all about the short skirts and tiny tiny tops.
Ei niinkään varsinaisesti tyyliin liittyvä juttu, mutta Iso-Britannian shoppailukulttuuri on myös melko erilainen Suomeen verrattuna. Erityisesti pikamuotia shoppaillaan paljon ja varsinkin netissä, toki tähän tietty vaikuttaa myös suurempi tarjonta nettikauppojen osalta kuten Boohoo, Missguided, PrettyLittleThing... Näitä riittää.
Omasta mielestäni brittiläiset ovat rohkeampia muodin ja pukeutumisen suhteen kuin suomalaiset. Ei pelätä käyttää värejä ja yhdistellä printtejä, toisin kuin ehkä me vähän minimalistisemmat suomalaiset.
Suomalaiset pukeutuu käytännöllisemmin. Enkä nyt tarkoita vaan niitä tuulipukuja, vaan ylipäätään esimerkiksi lämpimiä takkeja ja nilkat peittäviä kenkiä talvisin.
Not exactly relating to style, but the shopping culture seems totally different to me between the two countries. Brits shop a lot more fast fashion and especially online, but this is of course affected by the fact that there is a lot more on offer too with the likes of Boohoo, Missguided, PrettyLittleThing, etc.
In my opinion British people are more brave when it comes to their style in comparison to Finns. Brits are not afraid to use bold colours and mix and match different prints, whereas Finnish people tend to prefer a more minimalistic style.
The Finnish way to dress is more convenience driven. And I'm not only talking about those wind jackets and trousers (we're famous for those, you know?), but also for example warmer coats and shoes that cover your ankles in the winter time.
